5 Most Common Sunscreen Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Hi, gorgeous people!
Today I talk about something close to my heart: sunscreen. We all know how important it is, but honestly, we all screw up in our approach to sunscreen at some point. Trust me, I did. Okay, a few years back, I thought I was pretty good with sunscreen, but here are some major mistakes I almost did to ruin my skin. So, today, I am going to share the five biggest sunscreen mistakes that I've made-and learned from-so that you can avoid them too!
Not Applying Enough Sunscreen I just thought a quick squirt of sunscreen was enough…but spoiler: it wasn't. I had no idea how much you were actually supposed to put on to properly protect your skin. You actually want about the amount of a shot glass for the entire body. For your face, use one nickel-sized puddle.
How to Avoid It: Slather on that sunscreen! Don't be stingy. I love using SolBrush SPF 50, which makes it easy to apply without overdoing it. The brush applicator is perfect for even coverage and quick reapplications!
Thinking SPF in Makeup is Enough I used to think my foundation with SPF was enough to protect my skin. Nope! SPF in makeup might be better than nothing, but it doesn’t offer the full protection your skin needs throughout the day.
How to Avoid It: Layer a separate sunscreen under your makeup, and reapply it every two hours. My go-to sunscreen is EltaMD UV Clear-it's so light, doesn't mess with makeup, and amazing for sensitive skin!
Only Wearing Sunscreen on Sunny Days I thought sunscreen was only for super sunny days. Big mistake! Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of UV rays can reach your skin.
How to Avoid It: Wear sunscreen every day, no matter the weather. I make it a non-negotiable part of my morning routine. I love Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen for everyday use—it's clear, weightless, and perfect under makeup.
Not Reapplying Sunscreen I thought one application in the morning would keep me protected all day. Guess what? It doesn't. Sunscreen wears off; especially when I'm sweating, touching my face, or even just living my life!
The Fix: Reapply every two hours! SolBrush SPF 50 is a lifesaver for this – the right amount of sweeps and I'm good to go without messing up my makeup. Super easy and portable!
Using Expired Sunscreen Raise your hand if you ever used sunscreen past its shelf life. Guilty! I just thought that once sunscreen has become "expired" its use effectiveness was lost. That leaves your skin relatively defenseless to some sun damage!
The Way to Avoid It: Check the shelf life, replace sunscreen every season so you're getting the best protection possible. Not to mention buying fresh sunscreen is an ideal excuse to try new formulas!
So, that's a wrap! I've learned a thing or two about sunscreen over the years, and now I'm all about protecting my skin the proper way. Trust me-your future self will thank you. So what sunscreen mistakes have you made? Let me know in the comments, and let's chat!
Until next time,
