So I just rewatched the garden club party scenes in 2x09 and Alma's face when Grace leaves isn't upset. She's confused. Grace is crying, and rightfully so, but Alma is genuinely confused as to why. She looks up as if trying to remember or think of something she might have done and, I mean, masterful acting, but I am literally so upset for Grace and Joan. Imagine thinking you're finally as safe and as free as two married, closeted women can be in 1940s LA and immediately someone else holds your relationship over your head. Someone Grace cared for and trusted. I'm so glad they can be happy now. They deserve it

I would like to take a moment to discuss WWK's season two lesbians (sorry if I'm repeating myself, it's been a while and I can't remember what I posted about and what I just thought about while watching it)

But I am actually. So pleased. I keep meaning to rewatch it to see more of Them♡ but even so, I am just. Really happy

And maybe it's because I'm starved for rep, and because the a lot of the rep we get sets a low fuckin bar, but Grace and Joan's relationship just felt really good to me

First of all, the cinematography when we saw Grace at the window in episode nine? Absolutely incredible. Dressing her all in white, framing her with the white net curtains, and the fact that she was already established as the innocent character? Mad respect to the DoP and costume and set departments for the whole show, but that shot in particular. Because it would have been so easy to frame it as a dirty little secret. As the one stain on Grace's pristine record. But no. She was still just as angelic and pure and that made me SO HAPPY

Being gay wasn't wrong. None of the characters are even seen to be homophobic - the only reference to homophobia is the implication of the scandel were their relationship to get out. Neither Rita nor Alma seemed to care that they were gay, in fact, it was rather convinient for them. They weren't homophobes, just oppurtunists

And the absence of the "sexy lesbians" was very much appriciated. They were obviously at the hotel to have sex, but we didn't need to see it. It wasn't necessary, so it wasn't there, and I really, really like that

And I'm just. Honestly in awe at the way it was handled. They were just in love, and there was nothing wrong with that. They weren't condemned or sexualised by others characters or the narrative itself, and yes that is such a low bar, but I'm still so glad. And they weren't even the focus. The story wasn't about them being gay, but the creative team took the time to handle it respectfully and I just. Wanted to write out my appriciation for that

I feel like I might have repeated myself a bit but it really hit me. I had no idea there was any lgbt+ rep in the show and then it just. Happened. They didn't use it for Diversity Points or to market the show, because it wasn't necessary. They were just there. Just a part of the story. I wish more shows would do that

Actually I'm not done talking about Grace and Joan (and maybe I never will be)

Because they are likely so in love. I'm planning on rewatching the whole series knowing they're together but I already have a pretty good reason to believe that just from the first watch

Because they're both married and Rita has known about them for years. And even so, they meet twice a week. They stayed together and met up twice a week for years, despite the risks. They were both married and had someone holding their relationship over their heads - wouldn't it have been so much easier to just break up? To pretend they're straight or find some random unknown girl to hook up with? Yes. Absolutely it would have been - but they both loved each other too much to leave. They cared more about being together than being safe

And I'm never going to get over that

Guess who's writing a sad Grace x Joan fic!! It's me!! Will I post it? Who knows. Will I finish it? Perhaps not. But I just planned the whole thing in my head and wrote down the saddest scene so. It's coming

Someone else should have written fic for them so I didn't have to but hopefully one of y'all will see this and do better. I'm setting the bar low so you guys will give me more content please

I'm tired of tagging all my grace x joan posts as "grace x joan wwk" so they have their own tag and their names don't work as a ship name so like. Can someone come up with a better ship name for them. So far my best idea is Sunset Palace (for presumably obvious reasons) and I'm using that until someone comes up with something better

Apparently one of the biggest challenges of writing this Sunset Palace fic is that, as an english person, I know next to nothing about American history or geography. I'm doing my best to research but of it's wrong pls don't crucify me lmao
