we called you discovery, called you spirit and insight and curiosity and opportunity. we called you all the things we love most about ourselves. we sent you to the place we love most, with the hopes and the dreams of 6 billion people. we asked you for nothing more than to do what we cannot. and when you called home, crying, my battery is low and it is getting dark, we cried for you too, begging, oppy, answer us, let us fix you. oppy, where are you? oppy, please call home. oppy? and it has been 8 months. and we are still crying, still begging for you to call home. but we also say this: you were so brilliant, so beautiful. did you enjoy our red planet? your brothers and sisters will visit it soon, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll find you in perseverance valley. and they’ll call home, singing, we found her, we found her! we found the little rover on the little red planet that taught us so much about mars, about humanity, and about love. — in our stars and in our hearts, forever. 2004-2018 | i.w.
