Day 19 - So Why Isn't Michigan the Land of Lakes??
Grand Rapids, MI to South Haven, MI
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA BEAR!!! I know this post will not be going up today because we do not have wireless at our host this evening so I hope it was a good one! I love you so much and I’m going to tell you right now to stop crying if you are while reading this.
The water van is responsible for chalking. This means they go ahead of the riders and physically mark on the road with chalk the directions so the riders know where to go. And can I just say, Jaya, Rachael C. and I killed it with our chalking today. We not only had directions, but we also added jokes, pictures, and tons of motivational messages not to mention portraits of our royal 4K family. The royal 4K family is a special thing in itself. Without giving too much away, essentially every person on the team is assigned a character in the 4K kingdom – some are great and some are funny but together it makes up a pretty interesting kingdom. (In case you are wondering, I am a princess! Lucky me!)
So with chalking down and our water stops run smoothly, we finally made it to the host to check in. We checked in with the host and got the low down on the church for the night. We would be staying at the First Baptist Church. It was a lovely place and only a little over a mile from the beach. Once all the teams had made it to the church I went for a run down to the beach and along it for a bit. It was so nice! Lake Michigan, even on the overcast day it gave me, was impressive. And South Haven was such a cute town! I ran back to the church and showered up before the last group headed back downtown. There was a festival that afternoon & evening so some people went to that while I headed to the pier to see if I could possibly catch a sunset. The sunset did not happen quite like I planned (too cloudy) but I talked to my mom for a while and my roommate, Apples, who is now employed!!! I don’t know if you’ll get mad at me for sharing that…but I don’t care because I am so freaking proud of you!!! Congrats again!!!
After the sunset, I remembered we weren’t supposed to bike after it was dark so I hustled my butt back to the church. I then took a seat and wrote in my journal before completing a few housekeeping things and heading to bed shortly after.
