Redesigning Fashion: Transgression and Identity in Women’s Historic Dress 

The Schenectady County Historical Society of New York and the Fashion & Textiles program at SUNY Oneonta decided to give students the chance to research a historic garment in the collection of the historical society and then “design its modern counterpart.” I have no more images than the poster, but I would be very curious to see what they came up with, aren’t you? After all, many of us are inspired by the cut or color of a vintage garment even if we end up making a modern style.

The curators say that the exhibition that “explores the historical importance of women’s clothing and fashion in the expression of cultural values and the creation of identity, and examines how those ideals change over time.”
