Almost every list of "beautiful libraries" that you see on the web these days is made up predominantly of 18th and 19th century buildings or those imitating 18th and 19th century buildings. Baroque and neoclassical apparently define what most people think of as a beautiful library. I disagree. I think those libraries are the very definition of elitism with their "high-class" style. I much prefer a modern library. Perhaps they embody their own sort of elitism, but at least it's something our own.
