In light of recent events (Super Soaker and other fics being ai), I'd like to share a 100% human fic I wrote, fueled by frustration, procrastination and pure obsession. I love you Byler nation.

What bothers me most about Super Soaker is that there was an active lie.

To be fair, people lie when they use AI to write, that’s just how it is.

However, I have technically more respect to people who own up to it. Then I don’t have to engage with it at all. Oh? You used AI for this fic? Hard pass.

No harm done. You let me know AI was used and therefore I get to disregard it immediately.

AO3 let AI stay on the platform for this reason; transparency. You don’t have to lie about using AI. Just be honest that you used it. It’ll make everyone’s lives a lot easier, including the poster.

Lying is SO much worse. All we have with online art is good faith. Faith that you wrote it yourself, faith that if you traced or used references you’ll list them, faith that you did what you said you did.

Look how many people loved Super Soaker and are now upset. A lot of us here have morals against AI and a strong connection to artist integrity. I know it’s fanfic but artistic integrity is a real thing and it 100% applies here.

Because Wheezy lied, they got WAY more backlash. I don’t condone harassment, I never do, but I understand why it happened. Especially after it got big, they either had to stop or come clean.

But they didn’t and now we have this.

I never even finished reading super soaker, not for any particular reason, I just never got around to it.

I won't ever be finishing it now, it's really disappointing that such a beloved fic was written (at least partly) with ai, but hopefully this will inspire people to write new fics with their own human creativity and heart

How freaky WAS super soaker?

I've heard some things but I can't tell whats staire or not. I need to know what horrors Claude was forced to produce. I need to cackle at the idea of an AI bot cowering in the corner whilst the prompt stares back at it requesting unspeakable things to be done with a water gun.

Please tell me Tumblr, Please.

Okay, new Super Soaker situation update.

I reblogged another post but basically the story is back up with a note added saying the Claude was used only as a spellchecker, not as a prompter.

Now this could be a total lie. She may have just wanted to cover her ass to keep the story up, but it could be true too.

We have no idea what happened now and that’s the problem.

As far as I’m aware, the software used to find Claude only shows the instances where it was used and pasted, not how exactly it was used. If this ISN’T the case, please let me know in the comments and I will correct myself.

Now I don’t condone using Claude or any other AI in this way. Most typing programs have spellcheck. Even if they are shitty. I straight up don’t use spellcheck at all. I manually re-read my stories a million times and edit from there.

But my hesitation to trust AI busting programs have only been strengthened. This software in particular does show when Claude is used. Honestly that’s great, it’s the most clear cut proof we have in the fanfic community that AI was used in a story.

But the application of the AI being used is still a mystery in that regard. Maybe it doesn’t matter regardless, I still don’t think any of those programs should be used. They should never even be opened.

I’m not defending Wheezy in this, but some people are a little more lenient. Some people may just want a spellchecker and didn’t think too hard about it. Should they be punished with harassment and death threats?

I say no.

I have to say, this turned into what I was afraid of the very moment I heard about this situation:

A witch hunt.
