masterpost oh look, the kitten slept again so I could write. pls no concrit or editing, I've got a migraine coming on
“So,” Kon started after he swallowed a big bite of sandwich at what he guessed was his and Danny’s third date. It was a little hard to number them when they were sort of just doing what they had always done together. “Do you think your parents would let you go away for spring break?”
Danny blinked owlishly at Kon from over the rim of his coffee cup. “Away?”
“Yeah,” Kon said, trying not to be nervous. “With my friends? From the photos? The one’s dad is like, stupidly rich. There’s a cabin we can use for the break. It will be three of them and the one’s boyfriend and then you and me.”
Danny still looked confused. “Oh. I mean, I don’t want to get in the way—”
“You wouldn’t be,” Kon interrupted quickly. “Like I said, Tim would bring his boyfriend too. And they want to meet you. Which, I mean, they’re a little intense sometimes, but that’s just because they’re eager.”
Which was a bit of a lie, but Kon was pretty sure that Tim was even eager for murder and mayhem, so, like, how much of a stretch was it?
Danny chewed on his lip, which really was unfair because it was distracting. Kon tried not to think too much about it.
“I’ll talk to them,” Danny said after a moment. “Are we thinking the whole break or just a few days?”
“Whatever works for people,” Kon said. “Mostly for you and Bernard. The rest of us have parents on board for whatever. They know each, we know each other, you know how it goes. But your parent’s let you stay at my place, so…”
“Yeah,” Danny agreed with a little nod. “I guess fingers crossed and I’ll let you know later tonight? Maybe tomorrow if they’re home late.”
“Sure, whenever,” Kon agreed, already mentally crossing his fingers. “How are you feeling about midterms?”
“Not too bad? Like I feel good about science and math is just math. I’m doing pretty good in Spanish, but there’s a few verbs I keep getting confused with another thing, so I know I need to study for that, which you’re no good for,” Danny said with a little pout.
“Nope,” Kon said, popping the p and grinning, “but I can quiz you if you make flash cards.”
“You know, I might take you up on that." Danny picked at the crust of his sandwich before asking, “Do you think Lois would be up for reading over my paper for English? Like, everything we did for the project really helped shake things into the right places, but I’m still nervous about it.”
“Course she would, she thinks you’re adorable,” Kon assured him, which made Danny blush bright red. (Which Kon found adorable.) “Come over after school on Friday. She can read it over and give you notes through the weekend.”
“Oh, so you mean come over Friday and stay,” Danny corrected with a grin.
“I mean, sure, if you want to stay forever—”
“Con!” Danny threw a balled up napkin at Kon with a laugh.
Kon caught it easily and wiped his fingers before tossing it on his empty plate. “Okay, okay, just the weekend then! Gives you more time to catch your parents in the right mood to ask about spring break too.”
Danny gave a little nod. “Yeah, that’s not a bad idea.”
Lois glanced up from where she was typing away at her laptop on the couch. Clark sat next to her, chewing on the end of a pencil as he squinted down at some notes.
“Well, that’s sadly not unusual in this city,” Lois said. “You said they were scientists, right?”
“Yeah, but you don’t get it!” Kon threw himself onto the small sofa that was crammed into the living room. “They work for him. Like, Lex recruited them level of working for him. Moved the whole family out here and gave them a fancy lab level. Like Danny has met Lex and is creeped out by him level!”
“That is a bit more concerning,” Clark said with a gesture of his abused pencil. He shrugged bashfully at the look that Lois shot him. “Well, it is.”
Lois ignored him. “Kon, honey, Lex is Lex, but he’s not going to do anything to Danny. Sure, it’s yet another concerning fact about Danny’s parents, but Danny’s parents don’t define him.”
Kon scowled at the wall.
“Just like Lex doesn’t define you, Kon,” Lois continued gently. “The fact that Lex creeps Danny out doesn’t mean anything about you, it just means that Danny has good sense.”
“I’m not worried about that,” Kon lied.
“Well, it would be understandable if you were,” Lois said as she waved the matter aside. “Would you like me to do some looking into what his parents were hired for? There’s might be much out there but I can look.”
“Or the League can look,” Clark offered quickly. “Since it’s Lex, it’s always useful to know what he’s up to. New scientists might mean a new plot.”
Kon sighed and slumped further into the couch. “Or just that I’m being a creepy boyfriend.”
“Well, maybe a little,” Lois said.
Kon turned over to try and smother himself with a pillow. “Thanks, m—” He bit off the word.
“But also,” Lois continued, “you are who you are, as a person and a hero. Knowing the facts is important. I think that a little bit of looking is alright. Just stay away from Bat level of looking, you know?”
“You mean don’t tell Tim,” Kon said when he was done with his futile attempts to do himself in. He rolled over enough to glance at his amused parents.
“At least not to start,” Lois said.
“But I’m sure that Tim and the others would love to meet Danny, Lex drama aside,” Clark said.
Lois got that cat with the canary look again. “What about spring break? It’s coming up soon, isn’t it? Bruce has that cabin. I bet you all could use it.”
Clark, on the other hand, looked mildly panicked. “I don’t know about that. I mean, a bunch of teenagers staying alone…”
“They save the world alone,” Lois said with a roll of her eyes. “I’m sure that we can get most of them to agree to some ground rules, and then they can talk Tim into mostly behaving.”
Kon couldn’t help a soft laugh at that. “Yeah, we can find something to blackmail or bribe him with. If he brings Bernard and Danny’s there too, Tim will have to behave some just because of that.”
“See? Perfect,” Lois said. “I’ll give Bruce a call tomorrow to ask him about the idea and the cabin.”
Clark sighed. “Which means he’ll say yes.”
“Of course,” Lois said.
Kon continued to pretend he was oblivious about whatever it was that his parents had going on with Bruce. Besides, apparently he had a spring break to plan.
Masterpost pls no concrit or editing, I am migrained while on vacation <3
“What do you mean you have a boyfriend?!”
“Bart,” Kon mumbled into his pillow. “I’m trying to sleep.”
“No sleeping! Explaining!” Kon’s bed bounced as Bart flopped down onto it. (He wasn’t mindful of his elbows either.)
“Bart,” Kon groaned as he shoved back.
Bart dodged Kon’s sleepy move easily only to end up practically perched on Kon’s back. “Dude, come on. You got a boyfriend and you didn’t tell us!”
“It’s a new thing,” Kon said as he gave up on sleep and rolled over, dislodging Bart. “Today—yesterday? Whatever the fuck time it is now, our first date was just yesterday, okay? I basically told you all as soon as it was a thing.”
“But what about before it was a thing?! What about the growing crush! The pinning! The emotional angst! What about the story!!”
“…Bart,” Kon said slowly, “have you been reading too much fanfic again?”
“Fuck off,” Bart said brightly. “You know exactly what I mean. Tim is crushed.”
“Tim hasn’t said anything,” Kon pointed out.
“Exactly!” Bart exclaimed as he flopped back down next to Kon. Well, mostly next to, a little on Kon. “You know he’s seen it, it’s Tim. And because he hasn’t said anything it’s, like, so telling. He’s giving you the silent treatment, dude.”
Kon rolled over, away from Bart. “…well, yeah, that’s stupid. He’s not my boyfriend.”
Bart’s silence was excruciatingly pointed.
“Shut up,” Kon snapped. “He went and started dating Bernard. Besides, it would have been weird with whatever the fuck it is that Bruce has going on with my parents.”
“Aw,” Bart cooed and flung himself over Kon’s shoulder. “You called them your parents!”
“Bart.”
“No, it’s good! It’s progress!” Bart said. “And look, I know that Tim, like, totally whiffed on your little crush. Totally not crash, I get it, but it’s Tim. He’s stupid like that. And you’re still his very best friend. I just guess he’s a little hurt that he didn’t know.”
Kon sighed before he twisted quickly to pull Bart into his arms to be the little spoon. He buried his face into the mop of bright red hair.
“Danny is my first real crush,” Kon said softly, words slightly muffled. “Whatever the fuck I had about Tim was like… not know what a best friend felt like. Hero worship. Something. Danny is… Danny is real. I just needed some time to figure it out, you know?”
“Not really,” Bart said honestly, “but, like, I get it, I guess? Like I get why you wanted too, even if I don’t get the whole crush thing.”
“You don’t have to get it,” Kon said. “You’ll always have us.”
“And more us too!” Bart chirped. Then paused. Then started to flail. “Wait, do you think Danny will like me?!”
Kon tightened his grip on Bart. “I think you’re just the sort of chaos that Danny will adore. Now shut the fuck up and be a good teddy bear and go to sleep, okay?”
“Kon,” Bart whined.
“Bart,” Kon mocked back. “You can stay the whole night, okay? But I need to sleep.”
“Fine,” Bart huffed and then went completely boneless in only the way that a Speedster could.
Kon smiled into Bart’s fluffy hair and closed his eyes.
