The show was originally announced back in January with a series order. The logline states, “A small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer (Liu) enters a dangerous black-market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.”

Liu will also executive produce in addition to starring.

The series hails from creator Alice Ju, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie will serve as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke of 3 Arts. Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush also executive produce, along with Liu. A24 and UCP will produce.

Ju previously won an Emmy as part of the producing team behind the hit Netflix series “Beef,” on which she was a writer and co-executive producer. Ju also served as a writer and consulting producer on the popular Peacock series “Poker Face” starring Natasha Lyonne, whom she also worked with on the Netflix series “Russian Doll.”

Pensi di poterle distinguere? Prima di fare la figura dello/a spaccone/a considera che non ti trovi di fronte al solito falso da marciapiedi: questo è un “superfake”.

Ecco una storia sulla quale val la pena riflettere. In Virginia, il 17 di aprile, è stata processata una donna, tale Praepitcha Smatsorabudh, per aver messo in piedi una truffa da 400.000$. La donna acquistava borsette firmate per poi restituire, il giorno dopo, delle versioni “superfake”, recuperando il prezzo pagato. A quel punto la Smatsorabudh rivendeva su Instagram l’originale con il margine che puoi immaginare.

Il punto della storia è: le commesse/i dei negozi truffati non si sono mai accorte/i che la borsa restituita non era l’originale. E la truffa è andata avanti per mesi. Non ci credi? Allora leggi la notizia sul sito del Dipartimento di Giustizia del Governo degli Stati Uniti d’America:

“Superfakes” è un nuovo prodotto della tecnologia della falsificazione. Si tratta di prodotti falsi di elevatissima qualità, davvero, davvero, difficili da distinguere dall’originale. Stessi materiali, stesse finiture, identiche dimensioni, insomma, perfetti, talvolta addirittura qualitativamente migliori dell’originale. Vengono realizzati in Cina, naturalmente, con una perizia artigiana straordinaria e con precise informazioni.

Ma, domando io, se lo stesso identico prodotto può essere venduto con soddisfazione al 5% del prezzo, cosa si compra quando si va in boutique?

The superfake story from 20/20 ricocheted around the media - there was even a story in a Nigerian daily paper. This recap from the Mail Online, however, is the most astute, and the comments illuminating.

The last edition of 20/20 before the break was titled "Shopping Confidential", revealing a scad of scandalous retail secrets. I was part of two segments  - this one centers on the rise of the superfake, the high priced counterfeit that isn't actually a counterfeit at all.
