A Sandman AU.

Taemin would be a new baby Endless called Danger, the personification of human chaos, and the youngest them, tired of being treated as such

Kai, an immortal incarnation, but not one of The Endless, He's Eternal Devotion, you can call him Devotion if he likes you. Danger & Devotion have intertwined fates

Destiny, the eldest of the Endless and endlessly a meddler, is always insisting that Danger is fated to know & be bound to devotion. Danger wants to write his own destiny without emotional obligations, thanks. Fighting the hands of fate (his eldest sibling really) he leaves his own realm & runs away, into the human chaos that birthed him

He wandered aimlessly, feasting on all the chaotic energy humans created, sustenance that was steadily increasing quantity and quality over time. He has no idea how long he wandered, a week or centuries. He was satisfied learning to be his own Endless and has no need for marking the passage of time.

Until the day a quietly beautiful man fell out of the stars

He reminds Danger of the Moon, of spring rain, the first orange leaves in autumn, of waking up in the late morning & refusing to get out of bed. He reminds Danger of every good feeling he's ever felt, it was overwhelming. Still the man seemed sick or injured, to weak to move, so of course he'd help.

The mysterious stranger slept for a month & 2 days

When he woke initially, the man was still weak, couldn't speak, so they communicated in gestures & meaningful eye contact. They got quite good at it after a time. Danger was quite proud, he'd never connected with anyone, not even his siblings, as he had with his mysterious guest.

He still didn't know the man's name, but he felt less prickly than he had in ages. It was nice, soothing to be around him, comforting.

Then one day, the stranger was well enough to speak

Danger would finally know what to call the man he was not at all infatuated with

In a twist of fate so ridiculous, only Danger's brother could be responsible. The man introduced himself quite shyly as Eternal Devotion, but, he said, Danger could call him Devotion, as he liked to hear his name in Danger's mouth after all this time in shared silence.

Devotion?

Damn, Fate doesn't fuck around
