that since it was Imra who did all the sacrificing, there really is no redemption arc to Mon-el’s “hero’s journey”. 

He is literally getting what he wants, with no effort at all on his part.

Kara is like his “celebrity pass” in their marriage.

And his whole “I never touched her” was only because Kara had honour. It wasn’t from a lack of trying on ole Mr. “let’s grab drinks later”.
