Trend Followers

(Source: Jordan Loves Kats) Picture a guy, you'd picture him to be proportional, nice big 'v' upper torso, slim yet muscular legs, now picture that same guy, wearing t-shirts 2 sizes too small, and jeans that look like he stole them from his 12 year old sister. Clothes are not meant to be so tight. Trends are here because people don't have a personal sense of style and follow them, it's perfectly fine to follow a trend, but when it becomes really fucking eye sore, you yourself, looking in the mirror, should know how fucking ridiculous you look. Many of these trend followers, take a tailored fit to be a skinny fit, but that's totally wrong, tailored fits are made to accentuate your body, not shrink wrap them. I think the most important thing when it comes to clothes, is that they should be comfortable. Why wear something that you'll be uncomfortable in through-out the day? I get it when girls wear skinny jeans, they're girls... the jeans are made that way to show off their asses, who the fuck would want to see a guy's ass and thighs? Unless that's what you want.. by all means, go ahead. But not all trend followers are into shrink wrap, some, or if not most of them in at least my circle of people, are into brands, even if the brand produces shit products, with shit worksmanship and shit materials BUT slap a nice big price tag and their brand logo, it's sold. Most of at least my local cosumer market don't know about what they're buying, all they know is the hype. Take TOPMAN for example, every singaporean guy has at least a few pieces from there, but little do they know that for the price they buy that sub-standard blazer, they could get one perfectly tailored. Everything in my local market is overpriced, profits is all everyone cares about, only a very small select few have been standing by that quality beats quantity any time. Chain clothing stores have been sprouting in Singapore like weeds, hiring foreign workers, paying them the borderline & inflating their prices. A pair of pants could cost maybe 15£, here, it would cost maybe $60, does that sound right? When I'm overseas, I enter shops, the people working there are always very enthusiastic about the shop they're working for, they practically know almost everythng there is to know, and are helpful no matter what. Here in our little red dot, most people working at the retail stores know nothing of the products, and I mean NOTHING.. all they could possibly tell you is if there's stock left, and maybe read the label and tell you where it's made. That's it. What I'm saying is that, you consumers, you should be your own guide on what to buy. It's your money anyway, why buy something someone else thinks it's cool, you should buy it 'cause you think it's cool.

Street wear & Work wear

I've always known the difference of the two, but never would I have thought that unknowingly mixing both of them would be a total eyesore. I've always worn what I liked, baseball caps, hoodies, t-shirts, jeans & boots. I'm not a very tall guy, rather should I say I'm pretty short for.. well.. any kind of comparison, so I always wear my boots with a little heel to make me seem taller. Never did I know what a disaster I've been wearing out to school until I've posted my images on a local denim society forum and got negative feedback. I thought to myself, what did I do so wrong that got me all this? I know for a fact that these people speak the truth and are not anonymous trolls, and that got me thinking. I'm pretty sure some of you reading this must be thinking what a faggot or loser I am to be thinking so much about how I dress, but to me, it actually matters to me how I look, I always want to look presentable and never out of place. It actually makes a difference on how a person looks & reacts to you when you look presentable and not like you just took some clothes off the floor and left the house. I used to have a (and I say this in the most unoffensive way possible), 'china man mindset', which is wearing as much high fashion brands, showing off as much of the labels as I can, it's like shouting at people to tell people I own these brands. What being a Graphic Design student has thought me, is that subtleness and simple is key. What I've learnt is that, I'm not cut out for street wear.. I intended for this post to explain to people the differences and how to avoid these things, but each to his own. Anyone can dress the way he or she wants to, I'm just sharing my experience that I can't pull off wearing baseball caps and printed Original Fake t-shirts with my jeans and boots, maybe that's just be me not being flexible with dressing up the lower half of my body.
