MOQ – MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY

When you start importing, you will get to the world of measures. How the Chinese describe the imported goods? In pieces. You have to prepare for some things about the minimum order quantity (MOQ).

UNITS

Usually MOQ is given in pieces. But you can also have interesting MOQs like weight (usually tonns, metric tonns), lenght as meter for example (for textile raws), square meters, litres, etc. In the supplyers’ world they deal with huge quantities so it often happens that they give the MOQ not in piece but any of the aboves.

PRICE

Just as in usual, the higher your order quantity is the lower the price you get. If you find a supplier who can make you the desired goods only above a very huge MOQ than you can almost be sure you have a ‘big fish’. If you can order such huge amount of goods you can have a very good price from these partners. Usually the huge MOQ is cause of their different production planning and production lines. Many company has a limit which below they will not even change the machines to your product as it is not worth doing it.

FLEXIBLE

Even if the supplyers would like to force their MOQ onto your order, you can change the MOQ a little bit. Mostly for the first order from you it can be quite flexible. We suggest you to have the lowest MOQ for the first order (if you can order just a few, and you do not have to fulfill an exact order for one of your partners).
