DLU is an incredible organization, but they're tiny -- and that means every single donation matters, for them and for the other amazing-but-tiny nonprofits on our list. (Which is all of them! FTH is committed to supporting small organizations, and this is why.)

FTH2026 - Supported Org Update

The Center for Countering Digital Hate has been removed from our roster of supported organizations this year.

It has come to our attention that CCDH has been supporting efforts to repeal Section 230, a law that currently protects websites from being sued for posts made by individual users. The push to repeal it is frequently couched in appealing-sounding language—protect children, stop hate speech, etc.—when in reality, repealing it opens the door for aggressive censorship, denies access to important resources, and shreds some of the last vestiges of privacy we have left. You can read a more thorough breakdown of why Section 230 is important here.

But good news! To replace CCDH, we are tagging in an org we supported in 2025: Fight for the Future Education Fund. FFtF advocates for internet health and their project BadInternetBills is a very good resource for demystifying bad internet policies in the works. We rotated them out after they didn't get as much love as other orgs last year, but they are our saving grace for helping highlight the issues with CCDH before we directed donations their way. We're glad to have an excuse to add them back in, and we hope you'll be glad to see them too.

One more thing: we take it seriously that people rely on us to do good research here to help cut through the noise of deciding which orgs are worthwhile. Though we do the best we can, it's plenty possible for us to miss things, which is why we want you to also feel empowered to reach out to us if you have questions or concerns about an org we're supporting! If you believe we've missed something about an org that would put them in opposition to FTH's larger mission, please feel free to let us know so we can do our due diligence.

In this case, we flopped, but FFtF had the information we needed to catch our mistake in time. Here's to hoping we can give them their proper flowers this time around!

Wendy is a long-time organizer; she knows meaningful work when she sees it. All of us should be really proud of what we've accomplished together.

Where we stand with donations so far

We're almost caught up processing all of the donations that have come in so far, and we wanted to give you all a snapshot of where those donations are going.

So far, the organizations drawing the most donations (given as percentage of total donations) are:

Middle East Children's Alliance, with 10.3%

the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights, with 9.7%

the Freedom to Read Foundation, with 9.0%

and Sherlock's Homes, with 8.5%

The organizations with the fewest donations so far (again, given as percentage of the total) are:

Fight for the Future Education Fund, with 0.3%

TransQueerPueblo, with 0.6%

There are also several organizations in the 2-2.3% range, including Brave Space Alliance, Bellingcat, the Environmental Integrity Project, and the Congo Leadership Initiative.

While we believe deeply in the work being done by every single organization on our list, we hope you'll consider sending some love (in the form of donations) to the groups that have gotten less support so far.

A Slightly-Expanded Org List for ROFL Donations

Every year, lots of people chip in some extra money to the auction, donating on behalf of the Regiment of Fan Laborers (our cadre of fan laborers who offer their help to FTH creators in producing their auction fanworks.) It's a great thing to do if you missed out on winning an auction or if you have some funds left over.

This year, we are opening up the opportunity to send ROFL donations to the seven orgs featured in this post:

Please keep in mind that you cannot donate to these organizations to cover your auction bids, even in the case of bidders who selected “any group” (unless your creator specifically listed one of these as their individually-selected outside org.)
