The idea of an intersemiotic translation project--translating from one medium to another--appealed to me so much that I considered daring to suggest collage as my final output in place of a term paper, never mind if I had actual talent for visual arts. I have always had this brewing desire to try my hand at collage. There was something about its contrasting elements laid out on a flat plane that allowed the work to forward multiple perspectives on a single issue. I figured it was a language I wanted to speak. My love for satire would go well with it, too. Anyway, with all the chutzpah I could muster, I proposed as my project the translation of protest poetry into collage compositions. I decided to deal with panic attacks that I knew would come afterwards--I mean, why would I dare experiment for a graded, major requirement? Nonetheless, I thought the move was strategic; being a person who only had time for "priorities"--work and studies--I made passion my project. In the months that passed, I learned to make time for collage. I create to engage in discourse on our everyday experiences, but for the most part I create to comment on the pressing issues we Filipinos face today. I still consider myself quite an amateur in collage, but hey, languages can be learned. Available for COD nationwide via shopee.
