thinking about emotionally constipated!jack abbot my beloved! he's too grumpy to reader so they just figure that it's just jack's way of showing his dislike for them when in reality homeboy doesn't know how to act when he has a crush lmfao (dana & robby are constantly on his ass about it) reader is also clueless.
another tough night shift. there was no way to see it in a nice light and you know that acting cool and collected will not take you anywhere- you've been there before.
a "you okay, kid?" takes you out of your trance. you shift your focus from the patient board to lena. "i'm feeling awesome" you say with a straight face, sarcasm lingering in your words. "go. get out of here" she says, as she tries to shoo you away. you don't need to be told twice.
------
as you hand over you last chart, you start making your way to the lockers. the weight of the night simmering on your shoulders. pressure starting to build behind your eyes.
and because the day couldn't get any better, of course he was there. in all his glory. how someone can look disgustingly handsome after a 12 hour shift will forever be a mistery to you. too bad he was an asshole.
you make your way to your locker across from his, you feel that stare. the judgy one he tends to give you everytime you're within his vicinity.
you sigh. you are going to regret this tomorrow, but you could not care less. someone needs has to call him out on it. "i'm aware of your dislike for me, dr abbot, but i think we should act like professionals because-" you say, with your back facing him.
"dislike?" that makes you turn around. he looks at you in confusion, with his permanent frown displayed on his face and backpack hanging from one arm- ready to leave the damn place. you stand there. frozen for second, in the middle of the empty hallway.
he continues "you think i don't like you?" tilting his head a little to the left, like he always does. you almost scoff at the question, but the confusion is so palpable that you almost feel bad for the guy. "i've seen the way you treat others in comparison to the way you treat me- and it's fine! i've been told i can be a hard pill to swallow but i think that in a place like the ED we need to keep our personal opinions to ourselves in order to offer quality treatment for our patients" you almost run out of breath. you can hear your heart hammering against your ribs. the vibrations ricocheting in your ears...why were you doing this?
"but i do like you" he replies, in an almost hushed tone. like he's scared to admit it.
you laugh mockingly "well you have such a funny way of showing it" as you roll your eyes and leave him alone in the empty hallway.
starting a feud with your attending was not in todays plan, but everything had gone sideways anyway- why not add more wood to the fire?...
