"Circular Key" by Exiles // Only Summer EP (Out 5.26.14 via We Are the Future Records)
Sometimes it's best to just step back and get lost in some music. There are any number of sad and awful things to distract you on any given day, but a song like "Circular Key" from Brooklyn's Exiles can put that sort of thing on pause for four lovely minutes. This week sees the release of the band's new EP, Only Summer, and "Circular Key" is just the sort of sweetly nostalgic lo-fi dream pop that is a perfect welcome to the summer. It also feels like a perfect lullaby to long weekend. Highest recommendation for fans of The Sundays, Seapony, and Beach Fossils. These kool kats met while working at Amoeba Records in Hollywood and started a Fantastic traditional late 50s, mid 60s retro rock and surf-gaze inspired band. Easily becoming my personal favorite local band, both musically and live performance wise. Their producer, Nick Waterhouse, another Great local retro musician, knows what he's doing with all that vintage equipment, top-notch.
