Rockaway Day - Gui Machado
I barely went to the beach this summer due to work and all this exploring I’ve been doing upstate. Needless to say, I still got a few more days in the city to catch some ny waves then off to senior year at UB 😁🌊

Surfing is not a sport most people associate with New York. But the city is home to a thriving subculture of surfers who endure long subway rides and bitterly cold water just to catch a wave.
It’s a passionate community, one only too happy to tromp across a snow-covered beach and paddle out in frigid surf because Eddie would go, so they do too. The weather is unpredictable and the waves explosive, but that only adds to the fun. Photographer Andreea Waters spent four years working on her series and book Surf NYC.
