Best Regressor Tournament
Shin Cheongryeo (Shin Jaehyun) from Debut or Die
Role: Regressor
Submission:
- Once upon a time, he was someone who was rising up as an idol and full of passion for it. Then he woke up years in the past. Again. Again. Again and again and again. He's not as sane anymore but it's not affected his love for being an idol even a bit, in the end. - He has an adorable dog named Kongie. Kongie deserves all the love. Vote for Cheongryeo, you'll make Kongie very happy. - He got so used to regressing when a problem comes up that when he could no longer regress, he wanted Park Moondae to commit suicide so that time regresses, kidnapped him but still refused to kill him himself and went "please die". - He's a crazy cuckoo but I love him, your honor.
Kim Huisu (Eun Chaerin) from Surviving Romance (살아남은 로맨스)
Roles: Regressor, Returnee, Transmigrator
Submission:
Not exactly a "willing" regressor: she's stuck reliving the "confession" day of a schlocky school romance novel (which it turns out she's the amnesiac author of) except instead of the confession happening a sudden zombie apocalypse sweeps over the school! Basically she keeps reliving the day after each of her (many deaths) until she eventually decides to give up on forcing the canon happy ending to happen and instead focuses on trying to save her classmates -- all of whom were stereotypical bullies of the "sweet" protagonist -- so she first has to actually reach out to them and earn their trust. Also like, she really only gets her feet under her and starts succeeding when she decides to try to save someone who she has an actual connection with and doesn't just view as (a) a character and (b) a character who is supposed to save *her* helpless damsel of a transmigrated role at that. Like, no, Chaerin is going to be the hero thank you very much, lmao. Anyways, It's a really beautiful exploration of reaching out for true connection when depressed, and also SO SO sapphic-coded <3. Anyways, Huisu/Chaerin is incredibly clever and tough (we love a manipulative badass queen), but also smart enough to know when to delegate -- ultimately her emotional growth and journey to letting other people in and realization that not only can she not do everything herself, but it's unfairly arrogant to try, is so beautiful. Anyways I love this suicidal disaster of a girl and honestly the sweetness of female friendship as the true power of love is amazing.

okay. throwing this out into the void because i've literally been wondering for months. does anyone know what lee yeon is cooking with 'be a bad boy'?
like. i absolutely love 'surviving romance' and 'the makeup remover' such that my eyes popped out when i realized 'be a bad boy' was by the same creator. her emphasis on female friendships, her depictions of characters who can be both kind and realistically selfish, and the commentary she tries to tell in her narratives; I love rereading both of these works! i tried to read through the first episodes because of that but like,,,, it's definitely not what I would usually try to read. i couldn't really get connected with the characters. is this on purpose? does it change if you wait and read a little longer...? there are some stories where you kind of relish in the filth, and i can respect and even enjoy that --- but it was a bit surprising to me considering her previous work.
well! maybe she just wants to write a change of genre, but i was curious if anyone knows anything about it and if she's said anything about how different it is?
