Book Review: Last Survivors
There goes another series.
First of, I think this is the first of many series that I’ve read that portrays how the world ended or should I say how the world came to be devastated. Other books would only touch on the reasons why the world has been on the verge of destruction. I don’t know, maybe I haven’t read that much dystopian novels yet.
Anyway, the first three books of The Last Survivors by Susan Beth Pfeffer had me glued. It was enthralling; suspense-filled and the way it was written really had me travel to that dimension. In fact I dream about it sometimes.
I like how family survival became the focus of the book, and hope, and love, and sacrifice and most of all being able to not take things for granted. Whatever you have now may be lost in a blink of an eye.
The characters are not typical. Miranda, for example, should be or could be someone who’s already mature to understand things better. Jon is so young you wouldn’t expect him to be responsible for anything but he was. Matt...well Matt started out as a nice young man but marrying Syl I think made him a selfish @$$.
I am okay with the first three books. The fourth book is such a stretch. I mean, I could have been an epilogue or another chapter. It bores me to sleep, really. And the way the characters are behaving, you’d think they’re all advocates of world peace (which they’re not, they’re trying to be nice for the sake of the people who sacrificed so much for them).
Anyway, I guess I’d have to finish this book then. All in all, one to five, five being the highest, I guess 3.5 is okay. Had it not been for book 4, I’d give this series a 4.5.
