The truth

I have recently been reading “Stop Checking your Likes” by Susie Moore and it is reminding me of a lot of solid things that should be common sense. Like no one is particularly better than anyone else. Some of us are just more positive and optimistic taking the leaps of faith some of us are to scared to even imagine. 

As children we are as carefree as a butterfly but at some point it becomes a popularity game. We struggle to be part of the in-crowd, to be cool and fit in. What makes the popular, cool kids any better than the kid that wears hand-me-downs and gets home made lunches? The popular kids might have everything money can buy but does that make them happy? What are they hiding behind all that glamour and popularity?

I was never popular but honestly I never wanted to be. I just wanted my friends to be nice, loyal, and true. I didn’t need the fancy brands; just clothes that fit and maybe a style I liked. My grandparents made me lunches a lot of the time and they were envied by my peers but it meant more to me that my grandparents (namely grandma) cared enough to make sure I had enough food to keep me full and healthy and sometimes a little extra to share. 

It hurt when a group of teens split like the red sea when I approached about to figure out how to find my BFF in their midst. The upside is they opened a path straight to her.
