Bugünlerde Beethoven’in şu cümlesine sırtımı yaslıyorum;
“konuşmanın hiçbir şeye değmediğini hissettiğim anlar oluyor..”
welcome to my household

One of the experiences I have been most privileged to receive throughout my experience working at the United States Department of the Treasury has been working under the guidance and leadership of my two supervisors, Joshua and Alexandra. I did not entirely realize it until I came to the Office of Foreign Assets Control, but I had worked with some truly difficult bosses in the past.
In the summer after high school, at a woodworking studio in Kentucky, I apprenticed under an octogenarian with a propensity to keep right-wing talk radio on in the shop at all times. He would frequently debate me on the issues; if he lost, he would become so cross that he would stew for the rest of the day, making working with him exponentially harder.
During my post-freshman year summer, I was foolish enough to take upon a “mobile internship”. These involve working from your laptop and never having to come into the office, so you could do your entire internship from your bedroom. I never met my boss at that internship, or even heard his voice. We communicated entirely over GChat. Our work environment was a magazine, and at several points I was encouraged to “pitch” articles for publication. At several points, my pitches were stolen by my boss and presented to his superiors as if they were his idea. They were then published with only his byline attached.
Last summer, I interned at a small NGO in Bushwick, which I commuted to each morning from my apartment on the Upper East Side. Often I would arrive at the office after the hour-long commute only to find the facilities locked. After texting my boss, he would tell me that he told everyone to work from home today because it was “too hot in the office”— everyone except me, apparently.
Rivaling the importance of finding fulfilling work is the necessity of finding an inspiring leader to work under, a leader who is interested in your development and makes you feel like a valuable member of the team, no matter how small your role may be.
I didn’t really realize that this wasn’t the way a work environment was supposed to function because I had never really experienced a proper one. At the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the division of the Treasury I work in, I have been fortunate enough to work around some real leaders who are, to boot, incredibly nice people that have put an emphasis on mentoring and offering myself help. One experience I was really glad to have at OFAC was being able to sit in on meetings my direct superiors had with representatives of foreign countries or other government organizations. In these meetings I was introduced as a “colleague” and not as “an intern”, which I was grateful for. It was enlightening to just be in the room when business meetings were happening to see what sort of work a Sanctions Investigator is presented with weekly. My bosses and colleagues have all made an effort to take me out to lunch and get to know me individually, offering me career advice and a brain to pick. I even was lucky enough to have a mid-internship “performance review” of sorts, an experience I haven’t had in any other workplace. Out of 200 applications and 10 interviews, my bosses hired me, and the performance review helped illuminate exactly why I was selected, what they liked about my work, and what could use improvement.

Growing your own food summit - Day 5 is alive!
Today Paul Gautschi is one of the representatives! Back to Eden - After years of back-breaking toil in ground ravaged by the effects of man-made growing systems, Paul Gautschi has discovered a taste of what God intended for mankind in the garden of Eden. Some of the vital issues facing agriculture today include soil preparation, fertilization, irrigation, weed control, pest control, crop rotation, and PH issues. None of these issues exist in the unaltered state of nature or in Paul’s gardens and orchards.
