Four suspicious white cars following each other

It's 1:24 am right now. My boyfriend and I are awake and saw four identical white vehicles with completely black windows following one another no more than about 100 feet apart, aside from the last who lingered. They all appeared to have a rack in the front, but didn't appear to be a siren, and only had passenger windows. He theorized that they were escorting the middle car, and the last car was there for protection. But we don't know. Any similar events?
