you would think the open world pokemon game would let you explore the whole area before progressing the story. you could do that in isle of armor. but no it keeps going "Better head to the community center!" and teleporting me back to the bus stop. i want to catch pokemon leave me alone game freak

finally started playing the new pokemon dlc last night (i had early shifts right after it released and then after that i wanted to focus on the salmonid smokeyard salmon run rotation)

instead of properly exploring stuff though im running around and checking all the raids each day to make sure i get all the trade evolution ones. already got magmortar, electivire, and porygon2, i think that leaves kingdra, rhyperior, and porygon-z

idk if there are any exclusive to a certain time of day that i should also be looking out for (so i can get them before doing the story, while the day/night cycle is still locked into daytime), i know the last dlc had a couple night ones i had to get from raids (or maybe just breeding? idk)

just remembered the sv dlc exists and i went and did perrin's photo minigame which reminded me that i never finished new pokemon snap. oops

after the first day or two of playing the sv dlc i got all of the newly added pokemon you can catch wild, so i've been mostly just checking raids for whatever else i can grab for the past few days

especially trying to keep an eye out for trade evolutions so i don't have to deal with that, and i managed to get golem and dusknoir in the same day, only leaving milotic (which i actually did see a raid for, but i went online after that which ended up resetting the raids...........)

i just realized though... thinking about the way pokemon home is handling transfers between games (with pokemon data being stored server-side when it isn't present in the game you send it to--like how sword/shield and arceus have different movesets that get preserved when you bring the pokemon back to the game)

...it should technically be possible to transfer stuff backwards for the first time since gen 2, as long as they let us do it. and i checked and yeah you can!! i probably wouldve known this months ago if i'd been paying attention when the update dropped. oh well

anyway this means: i can take a feebas from violet, bring it into brilliant diamond where milotic is no longer a trade evolution, and evolve it by raising its beauty stat, and then bring it back into violet

the distinction between that and simply bringing in a milotic i already have is this way it'd be one originating from sv, which means it'd get marked off on my kitakami pokedex in pokemon home

i also finally updated pokemon home and transferred everything from violet in there and back to mark them off on the pokedex. i'd been careful to keep one of everything in my playthrough but somehow i missed haunter, wiglett, and finizen. which i guess is pretty good out of 400

i don't have my gen ix living dex ready though. that was part of my ongoing "origin dex" project where every pokemon comes from its original game, which i haven't worked on in several months. sometime i need to go back to that (1 and 2 are done, 3 needs a little work before it's done, 4 is probably close, 5 is probably about all there in the pc and would just need to be organized, 6 and 7 can be adapted from my existing living dexes from pokemon bank, 8 and 9 might need to be made from scratch or i could clone stuff now that i have a hacked switch idk)
