I’m a Palestinian girl adopted by a white mother and I’m proud of everything despite all the bullshit I get for it! Sometimes I don’t feel like I fully belong in any community, whether its west asian, white, or other POC. It hurts a lot of the time but along the way I’m forging my own identity. Hello, my name is Micaela and I'm half Armenian, with a few other unknown middle eastern countries mixed in, and half white. I don't see many South West Asians on here so I'm happy to contribute!

In the past few years I've become very pale due to illness so I look very white but in that time I've grown to embrace the Armenian side of me even more. Even if I don't always look it, on the inside I'm still proudly Armenian. When it comes to things like body hair and shape I sometimes am very self conscious, but the more I embrace being Armenian the more I have learned to embrace myself. So thank you for making this blog because it really is a great positive place.

Opened my French text book today and in an effort to "diversify", they had drawn Asian and African american kids playing with the white ones. Great and all, except that the Asian kids' skin was yellow and their eyes slanted black lines.

(Some days- like today- I just miss being there. And it's weird, and it makes no sense, and I hate it, the way I feel torn between too many places. I miss the mountains, and the air, and the feel of the place. I miss the people. I miss the work. I miss knowing what was happening, really knowing, not this watered- down, filtered news version of events, but living it, witnessing it, trying to assist when asked, when I had something to give. The closer we get to leaving altogether the worse things get along the border- we really aced this one, and we all saw it coming, damnit- and the more some small, insistent part of me just aches and pulls at me. I could go, it says. Catch a plane. Be of use. Which is madness, of course. Instead, I watch ZeeTV and translate for the family and cry, because that's a useful way to spend my time. Christ. It's all such a mess.)
