Just another post proclaiming love to the beautiful Star Wars score
For no particular reason, other then listening to the timeless soundtrack on this rainy day got me in a writing mood.
This isn’t a meta, or analysis, or anything like that (for which Oxygen and Tumblr have some great thoughts to offer). I just like these pieces so much, and want to confess my love for them. Without further rambling, in no particular order, here they are:
John Williams, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones
Sugary sweet and tragic. Anidala might be not the best romance story out there, but its score is beautiful beyond words. Honestly, the music of Anidala is probably my favourite part about their romance, aside from the tragedy of their story and insane attractiveness of the star-crossed lovers.
John Williams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Simply magic. Sometimes I listen to it when trying to fall asleep. The pace in the middle might be a bit too fast, but the ending brings you right in a dreamy, fairy tale state.
I’m also so hyped to hear that John Williams wanted to write The Last Jedi’s score for Daisy and Rey, and can’t wait until December!
Your Father Would Be Proud
Michael Giacchino, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Soundtrack is what made Rogue One ten times better and memorable, in my opinion. Months later, maybe years and decades, I don’t know if this film is going to be on my all time favourites list, but the score and the way it enriches the film are going to stay. Michael Giacchino did fantastic job in bringing life, emotion, and a sense of grand scale to the film. I am not entirely happy with Rogue One, but the soundtrack, along with visual and artistic aspects of the film make it stand out.
Rogue One’s score has some of the most beautiful, moving pieces in the entire Star Wars score, in my opinion. (Take Your Father Would Be Proud or Jyn Erso & Hope Suite.) I also think the beach scene on Skarif would’ve been a perfect ending to a truly stand alone film (which I wrote about here) which is why I chose to include this piece in the list.
These are probably my top three. Melodramatic, epic pieces, but I love drama, scale, and escapism, so...
There is of course many, many more fantastic pieces, like the classic Binary Sunset and The Force Theme from the originals, Han and Leia theme, or a darker take on romance and love in Anidala, or even location signature tracks like Jedha’s theme. Just to keep this post from bloating, I will save other, no less stunning pieces for the next time.
