Writing Accountability 1.4.17

If you think there’s a chance I’ve worked on anything OTHER than the Renegade Job this week, I’m really concerned about your mental wellbeing. I’ve barely knit, let alone worked on other things.

(apologies for being late. I started this yesterday, put it down for a 1k1h, and then failed to finish last night.)

The Renegade Job (formerly the SPN/ Leverage Crack Fix-it)

Right... about that. So you know how I said when I started this ‘oh, 5-6k, no more.’ I uh... lied. A lot.

I added 8687 words this week. For a total of 12451 words. And it’s still not done.

That’s not actually all the words i’ve written. There’s been at least two posts on tumblr for world building (here and here) that have no word count because i was just talking out my ass. (thanks @grey2510 for asking good questions to make me think about this shit)

I am at least on the downward slope of this. This one at least. (There’s lots of play here for a potential prequel/ sequel. But i don’t wanna write it, because Parker’s voice is HARD.)

Any rate, my goal for this weekend is to finish first draft, spend next week cleaning it up for beta.

Dust in the Wind:

I have a bunch of new (to me at least) meta to read through when I have a chance. Should give me a direction to go in for Season 6 and 7. After that, the fandom migration had been completed and I, theoretically, should be able to find things on tumblr again. (thanks @justanotheridijiton and @elizabethrobertajones for doing the leg work on that. I bow to your superior research skills.)

At any rate, I’ll start working on season 6 again when I’m done with Renegade.

SW: TFW/ Wheel in the Sky- chapter 17 got passed over to me yesterday for beta. I’ll work on it when I need a break over the next few days.

Writing Accountablity

Earlier in the day than normal since I don’t get to spend the afternoon writing peacefully.

Chapter 0: with @dorkilysoulless for beta. No real rush on it.

Chapter 2: has probably rested long enough for me to go back through and do a re-write of the first couple scenes. 

Chapter 3: probably needs like... 2 more sentences to actually get them on the road. It took 3, but they’re added. Not sure how it took me 8 pages to get through about an hour of story time, but whatever. My major players have all been introduced at least. 

893 words entered on 3. I should have started 4 on Monday, but reading, chatting, and knitting in the breakroom was more appealing.

I’m newly re-confident in my decision to NOT have Jess be a slayer. AND solved a power problem in my outline. I’m still not certain of my solution (or how much i’m downplaying demons), but I think it’ll get better as i set things up. (and no, it still wouldn’t be a buffy cross-over. I just incorporate a shit ton of references. I’m 4 chapters in, there’s already at least 1 leverage reference... because Ash can’t serve the purpose I needed)

SW: TFW/ Wheel in the Sky

I’ve done my initial pass on the current chapter I have for beta... but not uploaded those edits. Mostly because there’s a few technical bits that everyone not me will ignore but will bother me if they’re wrong. And I need reference books to make sure when they’re fixed, they’re actually correct.

look, everyone should be used to the fact that i’m a HUGE ASS NERD and star wars was my first fandom. 

also, fuck you jj abrams for introducing fucking “hyperspace wakes”

neat story idea, but makes the physics much harder. And now we all have to incorporate them because... reasons.

writing accountablity

Got distracted yesterday afternoon meeting new people and thus utterly forgot to do this until i was too drunk to manage it.

chapter 3 is up by 520 words, almost all of them written yesterday afternoon. Which isn’t bad considering how scattered my focus was.

chapter 0 has had the initial edits put into place, turning it into something that can actually be seen by human eyes. Word count is currently sitting at 2624 words, i don’t remember what i was before i put the edits into place, but I feel like i added as many words as i deleted?

My total word count for this is 11808 right now, which is... a) significantly higher than I thought and b) oh gods this thing is going to be so long. it was supposed to be a one shot!

just keeps chugging right on along. I need to read the novelization of Force Awakens, possibly re-read Before (at least Poe’s story)

at any rate, the initial pass through for chapter 6 is done and it’s probably ready for a second pass. will take care of that saturday morning probably.

writing update

I really hope I can resume being productive soon because this is like the 3rd or 4th week in a row where my output for the week has been shit. Unfortunately, I’m not going to get jack written over the weekend since I’m going to visit my parents for easter.

Got edits back on my prologue/ chapter 0. I have been informed that it can be fixed at least (which is the only thing i asked) so I don’t have to completely rewrite it. Edits’re on the gdoc, but i’ve not enacted all of them. I just got them back yesterday though, so i’m not behind as much as concentrating on writing something new. 

1044 words on chapter 3. Jess has decided to un-damsel herself, which makes me feel a lot better, even if i’m not entirely certain how i’m going to bring Cas in (and if it’s going to involve Dean shooting the Impala). 

There’s some EXTENSIVE re-writes that need to happen on 2 and 3 before i even hand them over to my beta(s).

as soon as I finish this, i’m going to go design some things that won’t show up until like chapter 12, but words aren’t happening right now.

Weekly Writing

For better or worse, I did actually get some writing done this week. Just... not much, and only on Sam Browning.

Added a bit over 1000 words to Sam Browning. 

came up with a title (i think). Which is something i’ve been struggling with. Since normally titles are pretty self-explanatory for me.

although I just looked up the full lyrics and... maybe not. But something off this album for sure.

I am going to keep Browning. Because, frankly, Sam Wesson is a different character AND Browning is a more common last name than Wesson (Yes, I looked it up.)

I’m getting ready to upload edits to chapter 5 of SW: TFW. Then I need to do another pass through on chapter 4 before it goes up on Saturday. 

But first, at least typing if not actual writing on the (curtailed) Hellatus 2016 project. Maybe next summer I’ll do the rest. But yeah, I’m ending things with season 5.

chapter 0/ Then. I apparently completely forgot how to write Friday? I got about a thousand words of complete rubbish. Like massive continuity errors, let alone that thing i’m calling characterization. Some of it is probably recoverable for this story. Some is irredeemable word vomit. some would be great for... a different story that i don’t have a reason to write. I might keep the trash somewhere in hopes of turning it into not-trash, but it’s pretty intermixed with the vomit. 

Got chapter 1 back from @dorkilysoulless​, incorporated most of the needed changes. Dude, I cannot thank you enough. Still want to do some rewriting. How much is necessary depends on how firmly i can bring chapter 0 back into line. 

chapter 2: we’re playing another round of spot the reference. like always. This is currently sitting at a bit over 600 words, and is no where near done. But hey, Sam and Dean are finally in the same room! (but i have a group of very loud people over my shoulder and I can’t get my music loud enough to drown them out so it’s on pause for a moment.)

SPN Hellatus Project 2016 (yes, this is the name in my gdocs folder)

about halfway through typing up season 1. season 2 is written but not typed. 

wrote 3.06 before i switched over to sam browning this afternoon, will write 3.07 before tonight’s episode. I’m on track to meet my quota of 10 episodes/ week this week.

chapter 3 is printed to be edited, but has scarcely been touched. If the loud people don’t go away, I’ll switch over to it here shortly, otherwise it’ll be tonight post episode or tomorrow at lunch.

Writing Update

because doing these once a week won’t clog everyone’s dashes but allow me public accountability?

Sam Browning AU... needs a better title. 

Currently at 3600 words for Then and chapter 1. Then is probably going to get another couple hundred (at least) before I move on. Turns out, there’s a shit ton of crap to establish when most of seasons 1 through 5 don’t happen. Outline is complete-ish through chapter 6 and I have a vague knowledge of chapter 7 (literally, it’s currently titled “in the meantime, azazel”) but nothing beyond.

John really is dying off-screen. and while he’s going to get slightly more than a 1 sentence mention, it’s only a bit more.

The number of words I have written and can count is vastly different than the number of words I have written. But I’m averaging about 300 words per episode and I’ve written uh... 41 episodes (if the average holds true, that means I’m at something approaching 12500 words. holy crap, no wonder it feels like i’ve been working on this forever). Goal is to finish season 2 today (What Is and What Should Never Be, All Hell Breaks Loose 1 and 2). 2.21 and 2.22 might end up just being one thing.

I need to start averaging 10 episodes a week I think, more would be better.

Chapters 1 and 2 are resting before some more polish. I’m just beta on this one, so while it sits in the same brain space as the projects i’m writing, it doesn’t get a word count. 

Other things.

GM wants me to finish up my 20 Questions for the heist game. I have a soundtrack for the character now, so maybe that’ll happen this afternoon? maybe? I don’t listen to enough pop and club music for it to be an effective playlist, but I can get somewhere. Except for that damn turtle question.

I’m at least 2 sessions behind on writing up the journal for @teamfreecontinentalbreakfast. last session was almost entirely combat, so it won’t take very long, but I’m not sure how much to include since my character was trying to bleed to death while @dorkilysoulless was off killing team mates and blowing up trucks.

I owe @eriquin a response to her ask thingie. Which is actually up next, since those are easily accomplished at work.
