shout-out to Rey for appreciating all of Ben’s face with her hands, and constantly looking from his eyes down to his lips before finally going in for the kill and kissing her husband quite literally to death.

Interviewer: what color would your lightsaber be?
Adam: red.
Interviewer: I mean, if you weren’t Kylo-
Adam, channeling the fire of a thousand suns and the souls of all Ben Solo fans in the galaxy: red.
what really has me lying in bed with red fucking eyes about this whole mess is Ben knew what he had to do the moment he saw Rey’s lifeless body. He looked around and thought to himself: I’m alone. Without her, he was absolutely alone. And he held her to him and realized that if he brought her back, he would die but she would not be alone. She would have her friends and a world that would respect her. So even if he died, she would not be alone. But if she remained dead, he most definitely would be. And that was as good as dead for him and such a waste. So he gave his life to her, and went in peace knowing she would have a full life even without him. Something he knew he wouldn’t have without her.
And I fucking hate and love his good, selfless, pure heart and I just want to scream. Because her life would have been so much fuller, so much more colorful with him beside her. And he deserves to know that and feel that, and be a part of that. Jesus.
Parallels between Rey and Ben on discovering their dark lineage:
• Accidentally exploding things
• Isolating themselves in fear of their capabilities
• Being told by the abuser that they have no family except for the abuser
Key difference: Ben was there for Rey in that moment when she was told she was alone and had no family. Ben did not receive that same support. Instead, he got Luke pulling a lightsaber on him. But because Ben was there for Rey, because he was supporting her, she did not turn to the dark side. She chose a better life for herself knowing, whatever happened, at least there were people who believed in her. Ben helped her realize that. Ben really did rise to do what those mighty Skywalkers before him could not. He did that. For her.
“He could see her now, collapsed on the floor, and the pain in his chest was suddenly so much worse than that of a couple of broken ribs. [...] Her barren eyes stared up at him, and he imagined them accusing him. You did this. This is your fault. [...] Those thoughts were the vestiges of Snoke’s conditioning. [...] He’d wasted his life, he knew that now. [...] She’d fought off the darkness in a way he never could. She’d saved everyone. She deserved better. [...]. He gave her his whole self.”
Come here DLF. I just wanna talk.
So, Ben got to hold Rey three times in his life. Once when she was unconscious, once when she was dead, and once when she kissed him. Third time’s the charm, huh.
my take-away: so they... held hands and kissed in a cathedral huh. kissed in “acknowledgment of their connection and celebration” in a cathedral huh
Adam has been spoiling the Star Wars plot this whole time. Exhibit A: outrightly playing out palpatine’s return on SNL.
