Tales of Florida Gothic - Chapter 3
One evening while jogging along the beach you find a message in a bottle. The message is only two words: "RUN FASTER!"
One day while consulting a map of your town, you notice you live inside a gigantic pentagram over a mile across comprised of roads and trees. This explains much.
Sometimes while driving at night, you are horrified to see twisted creatures rushing out of the darkness to chase after your car. You always accelerate away, but they seem to be getting faster...
From time to time 'For Sale' signs appear in front of houses in your neighborhood, but you've never actually seen anyone moving out, although the houses are indeed empty. Early one morning while drinking your coffee, you notice a 'For Sale' sign in your yard. You turn to discover some of your furniture has vanished. You drop your cup and flee the house.
You regain consciousness in a hospital intensive care unit, a breathing tube down your throat. Your eyes widen as you realize you are completely paralyzed. A doctor standing over you says, "Relax, relax - the paralysis was caused by the spider venom and is only temporary." Your memory flashes back to when you were walking in your backyard near the swamp when a spider the size of a dinner plate raced up your leg and plunged it's nightmarish fangs into your thigh. The doctor smiles and continues, "That was an undiscovered species of spider, by the way, and they're thinking of naming it after you." You struggle to warn her about the gigantic, writhing egg sack the spider was guarding, but you are only able to make a slight gurgling sound.
You've been warned not to follow the lights you see in the swamp at night, but it is...so difficult....to....resist......
