We saw Aretha last night and all I can say is 'meh'. I'm fairly familiar with the story of Aretha's life but found the movie confusing and lacking critical information.
It was all rescued for me by the interlude where she travelled to Muscle Shoals, AL and worked with the Swampers. It was almost magical to see the re-creation of how a hit song ("I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You") came together from idea to classic.
I would give a kidney to have the skill and talent of, and access to, musicians of this quality
