Bump on the Head
@foxycrafterofgreenwood requested the following Prompt for Street from SWAT.
Prompt #8 How many fingers am I holding up?... I don’t have 6 fingers.”
Some days are the best with Hondo’s team... some days feel like absolute shit with Hondo’s Team.
You got transferred to the team around the time that Street transferred to the team. And since you were both newbies, you both got close quickly.
Every other day one of you was at the other’s place until you were practically living together. And there seemed to be a tension between you two that neither of you wanted to talk about and bring up to make things awkward.
This tension was there for months... until it came to a head one day while out during a call.
-
The whole team was lined up, getting ready to infiltrate a house that got tagged for multiple gang activity and drug operations that was evidence found from an undercover agent. You stood behind Chris and in front of Luca, waiting for the signal. It was quiet... silent... all you could hear was each other breathing and the sound of clothes ruffling.
A tap came on your shoulder, signaling go time. You tapped Chris on the shoulder to follow the chain.
In the front, Hondo signaled the group forward and we all silently rushed towards the house. You all made room for Luca who had the ram to force the door open. There was a dead silence for a moment before Hondo reached forward and banged on the door with his fist. “LAPD SWAT, Search Warrant!”
We were silent as Hondo listened at the door. He looked at Luca and nodded, Luca nodded and slammed the ram into the door, forcing it open with a loud bang.
The team rushed in, in groups of two in a buddy system as the group of around 12 people inside rushed around, trying to escape getting caught.
It was chaos, noise and yelling from the people inside the house and SWAT crowding the house. 5 of the people inside put their hands up as they slowly got to their knees. The others scattered through the house.
You and Street rushed off together, following three men that had rushed into a side room. “LAPD, hands behind your head! Search Warrant!” You yelled at the men with your firearm pointed at them. Street flanked you to your left in the same position. One of them had put a leg through a window, attempting to climb through but he was too big. The other two looked panicked and looked ready to bolt.
It was silent a moment before Street spoke up. “Alright, back away from the window. Hands behind your head and then down to your knees.”
Just then, the one on the right bolted towards you, thinking you were the easier target. You moved your firearm to point at the one rushing towards you. He crossed the space quickly and next thing you know he had the gun to the floor and the other guy rushed Street.
You pushed yourself away from the guy to get you space before you threw a punch into his chin and then grabbing him by his shirt to give him a headbutt, making him cry out and for your head to ring with the helmet on your head causing slight damage. He stumbled back a step before righting himself and then moving to punch you. You reached up and gripped his wrist and then twisting his arm back into a weird hold, causing his shoulder to strain and making him yelp as you forced him to his knees. You pushed him down into the floor face down while you quickly grabbed some zip ties to tie his hands together behind his back.
Your breath was heavy was you looked up just to see Street get knocked out with the third suspect hitting him in the head with a chair. You looked over and saw your gun to your left and you quickly picked it up and turned with the gun pointed towards the suspect before squeezing the trigger.
The man fell back with a wound in his side, yelling in pain as you rushed forward to get him into some zip ties. You reached for your radio, looking for the other suspect, seeing that he fled. “156 to Hondo, two suspects in custody, one fled. I need medical to the first room. Street got hit in the head and is unconscious and one suspect has a gunshot wound to the side.”
Hondo’s voice crackled through the radio. “10-4, we’ll get medical in route.”
You stood up, taking some deep breaths to calm the adrenaline rushing through you as you made sure the room was clear before checking on Street. As you reached him, he started groaning and moving causing you to sigh in relief. You crouched down next to him as his eyes blinked open. You grinned softly. “Hey, hot shot. How’s your head?”
He squeezed his eyes shut and groaned in pain. “Not good...”
You chuckled as he opened his eyes and turned his head to look at you. He squinted. “Why are there two of you?”
You frowned in concern before holding up a hand with 4 fingers up. “How many fingers am I holding up?”
He squinted at your hand, blinking a couple of times. “6...?” He said unsure.
Your face falls into a deadpan. “I don’t have 6 fingers, Street.”
His face falls. “Oh...”
A snort comes from behind you, making you jump and quickly turn around seeing the rest of the team standing around the doorway. “Well, it’s a good think medical is almost here.” Luca said with a grin on his face.
Hondo grinned as Street groaned. “Come on, let's bring the suspects in custody to the van.” Hondo told the team as you helped Street sit up slightly.
Luca and Chris stepped up to grab the two you cuffed. “We got it, Y/N” Chris said.
“Thanks guys.” You smiled at them before looking back at Street.

Hours later, you leaned back against the wall in front of the hospital, watching the automatic doors for Street to come out. You were now in civilian clothes as you crossed your arms, waiting for him for about 20 minutes now.
Straightening up as you saw him through the glass doors, you grinned softly as he looked down at the folders in his hands and his duffle bag on his shoulder. Luca texted you saying he brought Street his clothes so he could change out of his SWAT Gear.
Street walked a few steps out of the door before he looked up, locking eyes with you cause his face to relax as a smile spread on his lips. You smiled back and walked towards him, meeting in the middle.
“Hey” He breathed out “What- uh – what are you doing here?”
You grinned and stuffed your hands in your pockets. “Well, your bike is at HQ so I figured... I’d come get you and bring you home?” His smile grew bashful as he stared at you. “And I was thinking maybe we could grab something to eat on the way there?”
He started nodding a little quickly before stopping and chuckled. “Sure, definitely.”
You both turned to head to your car before you quipped to him. “You think you got smarter from the head damage?”
He scoffed and then then pushed you away from him lightly making you laugh at him.
