To be fair, Varian himself doesn’t really know what he’s doing here. The commotion earlier had drawn his attention, and he’d waited until now to take a closer look. He’s careful around the sea-cliffs, wary of the uneven ground.

The LIGHT FURY had lost his boy in the woods, and he was currently following a scent trail. She just happened to step in the middle of it. Was she involved? Did she harm Vanisher’s human fledgling? ✪: Have they ever let a rare opportunity slip them by? – Ok so mun note : I didn’t stick 100% to the prompt because a lot of rare chances are things they purposefully passed on

Jake -

     One comes to mind is that he let slip is talking to the “lady in the Thames” (aka one of the nymphs that carried him to safety as a baby but lost him) that called him out by name before he was found. He purposefully passed up that chance because she scared him pretty badly (and called him “Everton” which confused him to no end). 

Nixie -

     Not really. To her though, even “making friends” is a rare opportunity that she purposefully avoids due to the danger it puts the other person in. So she lets those slip by because she doesn’t want more people dead because of her.

Maddox - 

     Plenty. His father– a foreign prince– wanted to publicly acknowledge him an let him live in the castle (as Maddox is the illegitimate child of an unmarried common woman and a prince, this is pretty rare) as well as giving Maddox the title of Duke. He passed up that opportunity on purpose though.

Isabelle -

     Not that I can think of. She, like her brother, have a ton of doors open for them in life with their status and wealth, I don’t really believe there’s many rare chances she let slip past unless she was heavily against it.

Archie - 

     This kid is FULL of rare opportunities that he TOOK. He’s a child genius, an inventor, he travels the world for invention conventions talking to the brightest minds of his era, he has two oxford degrees (one medical) from Oxford university by the time he’s 11. There’s not many opportunities that he doesn’t take.

Cwenhild -

     The rarest opportunity she’s let slip by is getting adopted. She doesn’t, at all, like being held down in one place for too long and figures it’s best to run away before she gets kicked out.
