3:Here is something you may not have known: “drink the kool-aid”, is a phrase that has come to be used to refer to people buying into the claims of weird culty situations. Originally it referred to accepting the local 60’s psychoactive drug culture by way of consuming LSD-Laced Kool-Aid (back when it was legal) as detailed in Tom Wolfe’s “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test”. However, the more cult-suicide association is a reference to the 1978 Jonestown Massacre, which was actually Cyanide laced Grape Flavor-Aid. Oh YEAH! So, if you are on the older and more socially permissive side and have been asleep the last 30 years you should know “Kool-Aid” randomly coming up in conversation is usually figurative and something to avoid, even though the reference should literally be Flavor-Aid. My house only drinks Tang; delicious weird Mexican flavored Tang. Horchata-Tang? Yes, please. It’s made of tigernut! TIGERNUT!
Maybe among the top 10 best/worst footnotes I ever published.
(I actually am not super into Horchata, but I did enjoy saying “tigernut”.)
