“if you hold me now and leave me never, say you’ll stay with me forever,”  he speaks softly, palm upturned to larry in the space between them with patience as he waits for him to take it. because he knows he will, sure as the angels would fall and their days would keep ticking away. what an incredibly human thing, to be so openly vulnerable to another. it almost makes him feel, for a moment, as if he has a heart.  “—then i’ll surrender.”

“  you say that  ‘  I’M AN ANGEL,  ’   tell me what you mean by that?”  strange rumination coming from him, perhaps. it’s unlike him, but not entirely  :  there are moments that sweets regards him with confusion, even self awareness. he is selfish, at his core. one could argue their relationship exists solely on the heels of his unwillingness to give up or take no for an answer and perhaps, in a way, that makes sweets the villain. to call him angelic seems strange. he doesn’t quite understand him sometimes, but he also isn’t human.  “i’m a nightmare, i suppose that’s what your father must have thought. but i took you away and i would never give you back  -  i’d have killed him for your sake if there were no other way. that’s the selfish truth, such a bitter pill."
