To the people who insist that the producers of the ST don’t need to take into account the implications of Finn’s portrayal from an American point of view because SW exists in space: You do all realize that Finn is coded as American Black don’t you? The accent he’s using is explicitly American according to all the people involved with the films that have spoken about it. So they in fact should take into account American racist implications when they write for that character. Period.

“I also noticed John wanted to be the Harrison Ford of the trilogy.”
“He sounds desperate and without many career opportunities.”
“but I still want you guys to understand that JB followers/supporters aren’t real. After TFA, he became cocky and overconfident”
“ Kylo is popular and marketable, but off-brand. Finn, Poe (and Rey as part of that trio) are not so marketable, but on-brand”

“Displaying consent between two characters is the difference. JB made a uncomfortable comment on the character his co-star (and good friend) played. He then esclated by turning it against a fandom that had nothing to do with him.”

______
She’s a cartoon, an alien AND not in any of the films (because that .2 seconds voice-over in ROS that only a VERY dedicated fan would catch does not count).
Tell me, again, how Star Wars is inclusive or feminist? ~mod a.

Rose, Finn and Poe should have been the main good guy characters of the Sequels

so I’m not sure if Abrams/Johnson/Kennedy/Disney sitting down and having a plan going into the ST and striking to it would have improved things or made them worse for Finn, Poe and Rose; but I will wager that flying by the seats of their pants and constant zigzagging with Rey and Ren ate up screentime better spent on those three, the OT characters and maybe, you know, our ostensible Big Bad? And no knock on Ridley, but other than being the Spawn (of the spawn) of Space!Satan; there’s a lot of Rey’s traits that could have passed to Poe (Skilled pilot, brave hothead, holds his heroes to high standards, good leader etc), Finn (Force-Sensitive, finds the courage to face his fear, fighter, compassion etc) and Rose (strong sense of right and wrong, mechanical skills, personal grievances with the FO/Darksiders etc)
