💙HAPPY DISABLED SELFIE NIGHT!!!! 💙

This is the first disabled selfie night I’ve participated in since I was diagnosed with type one diabetes and let me tell you it’s been a ride. If I’ve learned anything it’s take nothing for granted and I am a lot stronger than I ever thought I was. Also this is me rocking my insulin pump at a RED TV release club night!💙

💙Facts about T1D bc there’s a lot of misconceptions💙

1.) it’s an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the insulin producing cell in the pancreas

2.) the pancreas produces little to no insulin so all T1Ds are insulin dependent

3.) No it is NOT caused by eating sugar

4.) T1Ds can still eat sugar, we just have to take insulin for it

i have been walking with crutches/a cane for almost 10 years now. surgery hasn’t done much for me, but i refuse to let my physical issues limit me. combined with mental illness, life has been hard recently. i’m a fighter.

In doctor's-office-lighting, I didn't tell you I was scared. That was the first time we were there

On top of the PTSD, bipolar, addiction and eating disorders I’ve been battling with for over a decade now, I have spent the better part of this year in and out of hospital with chronic stroke symptoms I’ve never had before and consistently being sicker than I ever have been with something doctors are hoping is long covid but haven’t been able to properly diagnose. It genuinely has been the scariest and most debilitating thing that’s ever happened to me with me having to leave one of the best jobs I’ve ever had in part because of it and really struggling and contemplating my future in a way I never have before.

But tomorrow’s a new day and this has given me a new perspective to safely live life to its fullest. So come next Wednesday, I’m leaving my state for the first time since February 2020 and going on a holiday to the beach in my new bikini (top right) and otherwise have promise myself to never take advantage of today again and hope that you all can do the same 💖
