 ❝Mary.” She grinned back at him, “common name, unfortunately.” She rolled her eyes and took a sip of her drink; alcohol tended to help with the nerves wriggling underneath her skin.

 “Cheers for not invading my personal space.” She raised her glass to him, letting out a light laugh. “Not many men I’ve met in here have been as considerate.” She peered down at his offered hand, raising a slender eyebrow.

 “And not many have kept their hands at a distance.” She commented, taking his hand with her own free one, shaking it lightly. “I know your name. No introduction needed on your part.”

     ❝ It is ratha’ common, innit-- we  got  a  song,  yunno,  Mary  Ann wiv th’ shaky ‘ands, what they’ve done  to  a  man,  those  shaa-aaky hands...  Not  entoiely  sure  what  th’song’s  s’posed  t’ mean, but th’ connotation seems a bit... yunno. ❞

     John  watched  her  under  a steady eye, his gaze switching from her  hands  to  her  face,  curiously  taking  her  in  with  a stoic and sedate  being.  ❝  Well,  it’s  a  pub,  you’ve  got  t’ watch  where you stand,  ‘cos  you’re  unda’ missle-toe righ’ now, an’ some fellas will ask for  a  li’le  more  than  a  kiss. ❞  As  unfortunate as it sounded, that was the truth. And alcohol softened the conscience.

     ❝Well, good, I wasn’ abou’ to go tellin’ ‘oo  I am anyway, yunno, sayin’ I’m from a band. Coun’erproductive, if  you  ask  me. Eivva people recognise me or they don’. Sometoimes I miss the regular chat. ❞
