Swiping Up for Links on Instagram Stories Will Be Removed On August 30
Instagram will eliminate the option for users to swipe up on Stories to view external links supplied by the Story author, replacing it with a new link sticker beginning August 30.
Previously, the swipe-up feature was only available to verified profiles or individuals with at least 10,000 followers.
In June, Instagram began testing link stickers for users of all sorts, not only those with swipe-up access. However, when released on August 30, the link sticker will only be available to individuals already qualified for swipe-up functionality.
Vishal Shah, then-head Instagram's of product, told Ashley Carman of The Verge at the time that stickers were a better fit for how people used Stories.
Stickers for features like contributions, music, and votes are already available on the Stories platform.
Instagram may modify the link sticker in the same way that other stickers in Stories can, allowing authors to change the colour, placement, and text, allowing it to be put anywhere in the Story for optimal interaction. In addition, unlike the swipe-up feature, viewers may interact with Stories featuring the link sticker, such as by commenting to and replying to postings.
