It is painfully straight, that is my huge grievance with the show. But. There are so many good reasons to watch the show and I tried to do a hard sell right here.

There are no gay relationships in the show, but at the heart of Nikita is the bond between Nikita and her mentee Alexandra Udinov. Really, at the heart of Nikita are all the relationships with protagonist Nikita, which is one of the things the show does so beautifully. In episode 1, Nikita Mears says that she’s “not alone” and the show never drops that ball. It asserts over and over and over that Nikita does not run at life or her goals as a lone wolf but that she needs other people to help her and that she cherishes them--and they, in turn, cherish her. She is stronger because of their help and presence in her life. 

AND ALL THE CHARACTERS PROCESS WITH ONE ANOTHER.

It’s so beautiful. This show is full of fast-paced spy vs. spy competence porn shenanigans but it takes the time to let the characters speak to one another and address their problems and it might as well be Lesbian Processing 101 except none of them are lesbians??? And everyone, men and women, gets to have emotions. They laugh, they cry, they feel afraid, they get angry with another.

Honestly, the only thing missing, the crime of the show, was that no one was gay. It would have ticked all my pleasure boxes if they’d just added the gay. But I cared about everyone and the first two seasons had the perfect Magnificent Bastard villain who, by his competence, elevated the protagonist team’s efforts and made everyone seem even better for meeting the challenges he poses.

I also think main romantic lead Michael Bishop is the true Feminist Fairytale Ideal Man. He listens, he supports, he talks about his feelings, he recognizes Nikita as skilled and as an equal, he loves children, he respects in general. He takes Nikita seriously as a capable threat and then as skilled partner.

The show is good. Season 2 has an especially frenetic breakneck pacing with so many factions and factional switching at play that would confuse you if the show wasn’t so good at establishing motivations. It takes a very simple foundation--what does every person want?--and uses competing and conflicting goals to set people against one another in ways that get increasingly complicated but never obscures what’s driving any single person.

I didn’t watch this show originally because I had an attachment to Peta Wilson’s portrayal of Nikita and so nostalgia held me back. But I was so shocked by how much I enjoyed the show once i watched it. It has humor, it has action (and Maggie Q was a big part of making the action bigger), Maggie Q gives Nikita such vibrancy and playfulness, and it’ll hit you with feels.

I’m willing to push the show on people despite the lack of gay. XD

- i like the face that even though i trace ppl face (*insert long winded explanation about the /need/ of the face being right otherwise no drawing*) i manage to make it with my lineart. i just rlly like my lineart. when it's done well. which is never

- i like... uhm... that i'm starting to really understand something about rugby? not an expert, but i can back my thoughts about it, my analysis with something, and the more i play/watch/read the better i get and recognizing stuff

- on this note i'm really pleased that even if i think i'm not enough i'm apparently considered a constantly delivering, enthusiastic player by one of the coach (he told my gf on the sneak. omg. *blushes* *thanks smellslikespringspirit for passing the info on* *flails*). i can do way better, but apparently my efforts are not going unnoticed.

- fifth thing... which i like about myself, even though i know is a problematic stuff... i mean, i'm very direct, bold, and i give back as much as i receive. i make a point of not minding it with some personalities or people that don't deserve the time of a day, but once the line on the sand as been trespassed all bets are off. weird, soz.
