Custom NES-style Switch Pro controller from GameCosmos
I think the Switch 2 will be in a similar position like the WiiU was but not marketed as egregiously bad, but bad enough where Nintendo's arrogance is on full display.
I don't think it's going to be that bad, but I'll definitely be wondering if sales aren't as strong as Nintendo hopes they are. I'm sure they've done the math on some of this; they aren't dumb.
Like you've got to remember that the Switch Pro was "real." For those who don't know, the rumor was that Nintendo would make a "Lite" version of the Switch that was portable-only, and then a "Pro" version that may or may not have been dock-only with upgraded specs. And there were reports from some of the most reputable developers in the business about having Switch Pro development kits, making games for the Switch Pro, and Nintendo sat on the hardware for 3 or 4 years because the regular Switch just kept selling and selling and selling. There was no reason to disrupt the market with new hardware when they were making money hand over fist like that.
The Switch 2 is here because sales finally began to slip last year for the first time ever. So, presumably, people are hungry for this thing.
But I also just think of how, like, sales on the PS5 are also starting to wane surprisingly hard from what I understand. Especially on the Pro. Sluggish sales on the Switch may just be an economic down turn, you know? And a Switch 2 might just make that worse, given its priced like a PS5 but isn't as powerful, has $80 games, paid upgrade patches, this weird game-key thing for digital games, etc. etc.
