Zero, Haunted Warrior

A human warrior of a standoffish nature, he may in fact turn his weapon against Amaterasu herself. However, while he is unlikely to seek help himself, he appears to be facing some sort of ghostly affliction that leaves him both supernaturally powerful and profoundly haunted. This seems to drive him into dangerous places chasing the ghosts that only he can see.

He does seem to have a soft side, as one of the children playing in Sei-An City’s commoner’s quarter will mention him looking after her and wonder where he’s gone if he’s slow to return from one of his expeditions.

Boss | Non-infected

A former resident of Stilt Village taken up a guardian post in the shadow of the Clock Tower. His haunt contains smashed statues of the king and a whole lot of dead zombies. The whole area is best steered clear of unless you’re looking for a fairly intense battle; while wielding a fairly simple weapon- a marlinspike- he makes brutally efficient work of anybody who comes in unprepared.

Unusually, despite his prowess, he appears to be an unmodified and uninfected human, given the ordinary skintone visible on his exposed hands. It’s not clear if the strange mask he wears allows him to escape infection.

Stilt Village in canon is noted to have been a major site of resistance to the King’s reign and his unjust edicts regarding the plague and his handling thereof- while some residents turned to despair, others grew angry, defacing statues and posted messages and even calling for the death of the king. It’d seem some of those villagers took matters into their own hands...

Rika’s a standout candidate for Reaper’s Game Ascension from the get-go. In other words: should she make it to the end of the Week, the Higher Ups are more than happy to welcome her into their ranks. She’s got everything they’re looking for: determination, charisma, an aura about her that draws people in. Her Imagination– the force behind the Game’s psychic powers– is strong, and it makes her a formidable opponent against generic Noise monsters and ground Reapers alike. The most devastating element of her power, however, lies in how aware Rika is of her own state.

She’s dead, which isn’t as bad as she might have thought it could be considering she’s still here. The knowledge that she can stay here, in this limbo, and climb the Game’s ladder, eventually becoming its Composer and changing her world from the inside out is, possibly, the most threatening thing about her.

(In Joshua’s world, it’s kill or be killed. The only way to take the Composer’s position is to Erase them out of existence, and the poor sap watching over Rika’s Game is vividly aware of that.)

Rika makes it to the end of her Game, but not without a degree of difficulty. Knowing the threat that she posed, the Game Admins had sent tougher Noise, tougher Reapers to face against her. As stated earlier, she takes them out with no problem– but this Game isn’t played alone, and though Rika’s partner is strong, too, their relationship is not. Whatever her words had over people in life no longer have the same effect in death. Now, the only way she can prove herself is through her actions, and if she really wants to take the Composer’s spot, then she’ll need all the ground she can stand on.

… What might be the most surprising outcome of them all, however, is that she doesn’t choose to become part of the Reaper’s Game in the end. She chooses to return to her life, and despite her Composer’s best attempts at keeping tabs on her, “Rika” disappears from any further documented records.

NPC | Non-infected

First encountered in the Ossuary biome, a former scout of the king’s guard that narrowly avoided the fate of many other objectors to the mass incarceration and execution of the island’s infected. Injured and cast down into the depths of the Ossuary, defeating the enemies nearby and talking to him will give him a moment to catch his breath and resume escape.

Afterwards, he will be found generally in the Ramparts or Promenade, not wanting to spend any more time in the island’s tunnels, and if spoken to, will warn you about an obstacle or asset on the path ahead.

Dead Cells Blurr would likely be a ‘demon-like’ being comparable to the Time Keeper, with pale skin, glowing eyes, and horns (in his case, a singular swept-back one invoking his canon design) like many other NPCs found in the environment. He would stand taller than Prisoner, and still be wearing guard armor.

Kotori, Masked Warrior

While Hayazo may be a masked thief, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some masked combatants! This young man may have been previously affiliated with the tao troopers, or with more sinister and unknown forces- the specifics aren’t clear, but the certain thing is the person attending by the pseudonym Kotori is a warrior of justice, here to defeat evildoers in the shadow of darkness. 

He’s also not the first to wield the name...

A traveling exorcist fighting the demons. While certainly not the nicest character he does have an interesting oddity for an ostensibly mortal man- red divine markings visible in a few places.

Lost Vessel, Strange Being

Legends tell that a hundred years ago, creatures from the sky swarmed Shinsu Field- clay figures that moved and danced and fought of their own accord.

Whether or not that story is true, or if any of the ancient statues that roamed the world ever walked, this one certainly does- a hollow ceramic figure with cracked head that roams freely. Xey may be challenged for an optional duel, or may simply be encountered and interacted with.
