@notbatboy asked: just from observing the little boy's behaviors, damian had a well-thought suspicion that Antonio was a good kid. sure, in the grand scheme of things, damian was only 9 or so years older than this child but the way he interacted with his animals was something damian could admire.
"i'm sure if your companions could speak, they would only have good things to say about you." damian lingered near the boy, leaving ample space just in case the child was not looking for company. he knew what it was like to not want human presence around. animals were far easier to deal with. still, just in case...
Antonio looked curious at the boy, having been surrounded by some birds and squirrels. There were several animals here that he hadn't really seen before, but were nonetheless friendly once they realized he could chat with them. He had even talked with a few rats! Although they were mostly loyal to some guy he hadn't met yet, maybe he was like Tío Bruno!
He tensed slightly when the animals told him that someone was approaching, he wasn't really good with strangers. Animals were better, they were less scary than people. He wished he had Parce with him. The jaguar was sweet as dulce de leche and always knew how to make him feel better.
Although, he did relax some when some of the birds filled him in on who was approaching and observing him. Damian, was apparently his name. He had a good reputation among the animals, and they liked him. So Antonio found himself already warming up to him before he even laid eyes on him.
When Damian approached him and began to speak, Antonio looked curiously at him. A smile began to blossom over his features when he received the compliments, and Antonio decided to return them.
"Thanks!" Antonio said, remembering what Mirabel said about being polite. "They already said that they liked me, but you can never tell." He scratched a pigeon under the beak, the pigeon letting out a quiet coo of approval.
Right! He wanted to return the compliemnts.
"I think that Maggie wanted to say thank you for helping her earlier. When you returned her to the nest she was able to stop her babies from fighting over the best spot. She tried looking for you, but she couldn't find you. I'm happy to pass on the message though! A lot of animals like you Damain." He said brightly, although not as bubbly as he would be around someone he was more familiar with. Being surrounded by animals did help his nerves, somewhat. If he was alone, he knew that he would clam up.
He completely forgot the lesson that Abuela and his older sister had told him, that when it came to his gift, he should not divulge all he knew. Despite being told things, he should keep it to himself.
