THERE’S A FIRE COMING THAT WE ALL GO THROUGH
After attending the Sunday service at Victory Fort, we hurriedly went to have lunch. We were planning to go to Earth Kitchen but it was under renovation so we went to Ooma. The place was packed so we were outside waiting for our turn. We didn’t know how it happened but Switchfoot suddenly was in our sight towards our direction.
Jon Foreman saw my sister’s shirt and he said, “I like your shirt” and shook my sister’s hand. My sister on the other hand was looking like a retarded the whole time of which I forgot to take a video. They went inside Ooma and later on, Tim came out to go to the bathroom and we had a photo with him. When it was our turn to go inside, the whole band was there but we got shy asking for a photo, haha!
It was raining most of the time while we were queuing but when we were on the concert ground, the rain stopped and we enjoyed the whole concert. God is so good!
The concert opened with some songs from Robin Nieverra and Julianne.
After a few minutes, Switchfoot hopped on stage and the crowd went wild!
They played Float, Meant to Live, Stars When We Come Alive, Your Love is a Song, Where the Light Shines Through, This is Your Life, I Won’t Let You Go, Sing it Out (snippet), Love Alone is Worth the Fight, We Are One Tonight/The Shadow Proves the Sunshine, Hello Hurricane (acoustic), If the House Burns Down Tonight, Dark Horses, Only Hope, Dare You to Move, Live it Well and Where I Belong.
“Hope deserves an anthem” and Switchfoot’s songs are all hopeful and truthful. They are energetic and know how to magnetize the crowd to sing along with them.
When I was in college, I used to listen to Alternative Rock Music, and the only radio station I knew was NU 107 – The Home of New Rock. Listening to love songs and boy bands was a sin that I will never ever do.
My National Anthem was songs from Audioslave, Blink 182, Coldplay, Dashboard Confessionals, Dishwalla, Incubus, Matchbox 20, Our Lady Peace, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Vertical Horizon, and Switchfoot among others. I still like Alternative music today but I am now open to other genres, haha!
Switchfoot though remains one of my favorites, actually my favorite band. The lyrics of their songs bring me to a different dimension where I can reflect on things and life. I adore Jon Foreman’s writing skills and how the band translates them into a melody that everyone understands.
This photo is right after the concert and shows how much people went and had their world rocked by Switchfoot.
We are blessed to greet and meet them after the concert. We’ve heard that many people lined up but didn’t get to meet them up close. It was only when I was on my bed that I felt that my feet were sore.
Thank you, Switchfoot for coming again and for rockin’ our world!
A POEM
Days went by empty like dark nights without stars
She is busy but at the end of the day she asks
What’s more to life? There’s more to life
A longing in her heart that wants to fly but how?
Yearning for a deeper meaning of life, purpose
She is broken waiting for the Potter’s mend
Distractions all around her, whose voice to follow?
But it’s Your voice she’s running after.
Just as the rain comes rushing to meet the ground
So is her restlessness to chase her dreams
Fighting every day to find where she belongs
Is she where she belongs?
Made a mess of herself, disgrace all over her
Hiding in her shell, camouflaging in the crowd
No pill that can soothe the shame
But she’s singing hope in her heart.
Climbing her mountain of the unknown
Looking for the crown that will last
She is holding on and won’t let go
To The Hand that won’t let her go.
