The article instructs allies towards ways of interacting with the sex worker community, and sex workers, in positive, supportive means. These means contradict and problematize the intersections of settler colonialist notions of domination, as discussed in Decolonizing Feminism: Challenging Connections between Settler Colonialism and Heteropatriarchy (Arivn, Tuck, Morrill, 2013). Consensual allyship is a theme throughout, with an emphasis on not trying to be an unwanted “Captain Save-a-ho.” The article also discusses the idea of reclaimed language used only within the sex worker community, and asks allies not to use this terminology themselves, as they are not a part of the community they are supporting. Finally, the article emphasizes the importance of allies taking the time to educate themselves and seek information about the movements that they want to support, particularly from sources other than popular media which generally work to vilify sex work.
