Avelera here, trying to take an amateur's explanation of Thorin's "Death Twirl" in "The Hobbit", specifically as seen in gifs like this: http://miugai.tumblr.com/post/80139053554 

Mostly this is a bit of background on longsword martial arts styles as I understand them. Please be gentle if you have greater knowledge, it's been awhile since I've done this and it's more a personal attempt to understand what's going on there than it is a lesson.
