I have a character who gets nicked by a sword on his side. How serious would this injury be considered? He needs to get away from the scene quickly, and then he's traveling for more than three hours straight. Would it be unrealistic if he only receives medical care once he is at the safe spot? Also, what kind of care would he need?

This depends on your definition of getting “nicked”, and also what you mean by “side”. If it’s just a cut, even a fairly deep one, over some adipose tissue (fat) on the side of the abdomen, sure, no problem. I would even believe this if he got cut on the ribs.
But one that sword starts to get near the abdominal cavity or through the ribs, then we’ve got bigger issues.
But yeah. A laceration from a sword wouldn’t be the end of the world, and if he gets some kind of a clean dressing on it, the actual stitching-up can wait for a few hours, as long as the bleeding is controlled.
