BETROTHED
For centuries, the Blodwens ruled the RedRivers. A Kingdom known for its huge red rivers and red minerals.
Conrad Blodwen, father of the twins Chris and Claire, and husband to Conthessa, sits on the ruby throne after his older brother died and left no heirs. Claire knew that one day she would have to be betrothed for the sake of the Kingdom, and she was always against this.
“You know, you just have to accept your fate, Claire.” Chris said, sitting on his wooden chair in their library.
“ They cannot tell me who I should marry; that should be MY choice. They're forgetting that I am a person.” she slammed the book on the large table.
“So what will you do? Run away?” he chuckles.
“If I have to, I will,” she stares at her twin's eyes.
“Not a very smart idea. That would be the worst thing you could do; they would find you and bring you back to the castle.”
He was right, it is not easy to simply run away, no smallfolk would want to get involved in such matters.
“Children, the supper is ready, your father awaits.”
As I left the library and headed to the dining room with Chris, I knew that something was happening. The Castle received new knights from the EmeraldStone Kingdom. I wonder what is happening.
As I sat, the king sat on his chair at the head of the table.
“Great children, you have arrived. I have news to share. Sit.”
''What kind of news, Father?'' Christopher says
“Christopher, you have been promised to the princess of Emeraldstone.”
Chris was surprised, but he knew that sooner or later it would happen, so he was not entirely unprepared.
“Claire, you have been promised to the prince of Thunderstorm. “
“What?! Why would you do that? I don't accept it,” she furrowed her eyebrows. How could her own father do this to her
“You don't have to accept it; it is already done.” The King has already decided, nothing would change it, not even his own daughter.
“ I will never marry such an individual.” The disgust was written all over her face
Thalassios Thunderstorm, one of the most infamous individuals of the Thunderstorm Kingdom, is one of the most problematic princes that you have ever met.
But one thing that your Kingdom needs is more power, and the Thunderstorm Kingdom was a great ally.
He is your future husband and King.
“He will never be either of those things, “ she said with a defiant tone.
Claire barely touched her plate; her mind was racing more than ever. What should I do?
Claire is the heir of the Blood Landing, a small town in the west of Red River. She indeed has a place to go, but it is way too obvious.
She stands and leaves the table, runs towards her room, and locks herself in there. She needed to leave.
I can't stay here any longer. I will not be tied up in marriage for the sake of the Kingdom. I can take care of it while with someone I love. I am not willing to marry someone for power or money.
As midnight arrives, Claire paces through the castle. She arrives at the Knights' Training Room.
Since Chris has been promised to the Emeraldstone princess, our Kingdom received many new knights, and she could only watch the Knights training.
After what happened during the supper, Father will definitely put a knight to guard me.
She decided to rest, not to make any decisions in a rush. She heads towards her bedroom and sleeps.
On the morrow, her handmaid Rebecca awakens the princess, announcing that her father, the king, would like to introduce the new knights so we could familiarize ourselves with their names and faces.
“You know, your majesty, there is this murmur going around the small folks.” Rebecca brushes Claire's hair gently
“What murmurs, Rebecca? '' the princess was curious, she loved the gossip
“I am sorry, your majesty, but the small folks believe that you're going to be the downfall of the Kingdom.” Her face appears sad. How could small folks speak so badly to their princess?
“Let them speak, Rebecca,” Claire responded.
Rumors are just that, rumors.”
“Yes, your majesty.”
After Claire had finished getting ready, she looked at the giant window; she could see the entire kingdom from there. She could only imagine what other terrible things they would say about her.
Christopher and Claire arrived at the Throne Room, where King Conrad was sitting.
“It is not good to keep your king waiting,” says the king's hand.
“I am sorry, Lord, I had some unfinished business to take care of.”
“My children, these are the new knights, they were given by EmeraldStone, to strengthen our castle and keep peace in our kingdom.”
“Ser Carlos Montenegro will be responsible for escorting Christopher.”
Montenegro was tall, strong, and had messy curls in his hair.
“Ser Leon Seaward will be responsible for escorting Claire.”
As my eyes met the Knight, my stomach filled with butterflies, a feeling that I had never felt before. Leon was tall and strong as well; he had straight, dirty blond hair swept to the side, and his eyes. He had the lightest blue eyes I had ever seen; it was like staring at the ocean on a summer day.
Leon bows in respect.
“Prince, Princess.”
He had this smile on his face when he said princess.
Chris whispers to Claire, “See, what you have done during the supper made us have babysitters.”
*Shut up.”
“They shall follow you everywhere and guard your bedroom. The loyalty ceremony shall start.”
“Ser Carlos Montenegro, you swear before your king to protect the prince and heir to the throne, Christopher Blodwen.”
“I promise my king.” He bows
“Ser Leon Seaward, you swear before your king to protect the princess and heir to the throne, Claire Blodwen.”
“I promise my king. “ He bows
“If the promise of loyalty is broken, you will lose your life for treason. “
“Understood, your majesty. “
Both speak in unison.
