Sword Art Online : Ordinal Scale - Review 🚫🚫🚫 Warning : Spoiler 🚫🚫🚫 ✳ Synopsis ✳ In 2022, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba, called NerveGear. It was the first full-dive system, and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs. In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn't have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is "Ordinal Scale" (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma. Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, by the time Kirito decides to join them. They're about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn't all fun and games... 💠 Intro 💠 So i've watched SAO Ordinal Scale in the first day its released in Indonesia. When the movie begins, it introduced about what Augma is and how AR works in that verse. What makes different between VR and AR in SAO verse are the consciousness system. In VR SAO, we are unconscious when playing the games, while Augma Ordinal Scale has player stay conscious while playing the games. Therefore literally the owner promoted that Augma is safer than VR. There's AI named Yuna in Augma that always sing whenever the players raid together. Players said that Yuna performs real thought of human and that's still mystery. In Augma, Kirito is noob and feels heavy playing AR, meanwhile his harem got nice rank lol, poor Kirito. Then we are dragged where there's a case that several SAO bosses appeared in Ordinal Scale. Kirito and friends fought that boss then we meet GG player named Eiji since he is rank 2. Eiji seems close to Yuna here. Unfortunately Augma isn't as peace as we think. A problem later appeared where some player lost their memories about SAO including Asuna and even Klein got attacked physically in real life. ➡ There are Positive and Negative impression i got: ( ➕ ) Positive : I was impressed with the Augma game system. I mean, we can buy food, clothes, and other stuffs just by gaining points in Augma. Can i call it invest in game? Or the game itself is another payment card? Idk, that system is amazing for me. What i also like about Ordinal Scale is Kirito being a noob LMAO, a rare case since usually he is OP in every SAO's beginning. Not only that, Eiji and Yuna's story are darn epic. Somehow i feel bad for Eiji, he is weak in SAO and found a light named Yuna there, but why she has to die and leave him alone? :"D Yuna is SAO player who have beautiful voice that encourage SAO player back then. Augma was actually made by Yuna's Father and supported by Eiji. Yuna's father couldn't accept Yuna's death. They made Augma and attempted brain reconstruction from SAO players to revive Yuna as an AI in Augma, that's why SAO players memory were targeted. But that is Yuna's Father and Eiji's pain, i just admire their deep love for Yuna and how kind Yuna is. Totally ship Eiji and Huna there! More importantly, in post-credit, if i'm not mistaken, Sugou Nobuyuki and Yuna's father were recruited to join Rath ( Alicization Arc ) after impressed by Yuna's Father skill at brain reconstruction in Augma. ( ➖ ) Negative: Again and again, Asuna lost her memories were being prioritized here and less concern in Klein's condition wtf. Asuna only lost her SAO memories, but Klein is worser, not only lost his SAO memories, Klein's arm phisically broken after Eiji attacked him and damage his brain with terror in Augma. The less concern about Klein is fatality for me, why not make Asuna in Klein's condition instead? It could bring greater drama lol. The worst nutshell here after knowing Asuna's problem, Kirito started being OP again with the power of love and hardwork after being a noob player. He reached rank 6 and defeated Eiji. Meh, whenever badass guy appeared, Kirito ruined the second guy image -_- 💡 Overall : SAO is always great in main problem but ruined by Kirito in the end. But i'm still satisfied with this movie and the story of course. Yuki Kajiura once again being an expert at composing. Those insert song(s) really catch the atmosphere esp when Klein screamed in despair attacked by Eiji and DELETE by Yuna were played at the momment. If we count in number, total score is 8/10.
