15 day SWTOR OC challenge!

today (9/18/19)  we have thirty-three days left until onslaught, so here’s something for me (and anybody else who would like to) to do in the meantime!

Gavin’s Big Dumb 15* day SWTOR OC challenge: 

1. Prologue. Where was your OC before the class story? How’d they end up on the starter planet? 2. Family. Is your OC’s family a large part of their story? Why or why not? Are they on good terms? Are any of your characters related? 3. Name. How did you come up with their name? What is it in-game? What do people call them? What do *you* call them?  4. Combat. SWTOR 15 Day Challenge: Post-Ossus

14. Post-Ossus. How have they changed over the course of the thirteen years? How do they feel about their past self? How would their past self feel about them now?

By the time we reach Ossus I think it's 14 years. :) Viri's exhausted. She's very disappointed that after everything that happened with the Eternal Empire, the Empire and Republic are still at each other's throats. Like, hasn’t everyone seen enough war to last a while? 

Viri is at the point where telling everyone to go to hell and vanishing into the Rishi maze with Lana and friends is looking really good to her. If asked, she will not return to the Empire, and she certainly has no desire to join the Republic. She just wants to be left alone on Odessen and help out where she can.

She's infuriated that Gnost-Dural and the Jedi are still on their "eradicate the DS and Sith completely" kick. She would have thought that after seeing a Sith defeat the Eternal Empire, free the galaxy and work to rehabilitate many planets  - including Republic worlds - the Jedi might have realized that the Sith order had a right to exist, too.

Viri did kill Gnost-Dural because she's kriffing tired of Jedi who think genocide against the Sith is acceptable, but she doesn't want genocide against the Jedi either. She just wants everyone to go back to their own corners and chill the fuck out. On Ossus, Viri told Malgus she was not there to slaughter every Jedi, just to drive the colony out. 

Viri did not take it well that Malgus was still alive. She thought she'd killed him in their battle in the "New Emperor's" space station, because she'd stabbed him and he'd fallen down the ventilation shaft, and she takes it as a failure on her part that he survived. It was a callback to Lord Draahg. She defeated Draahg in the orbital station airlock above Hoth, but she didn't wait around to make sure he really died, so Baras was able to recover him and reconstruct him into the cyborg that confronted her and Darth Vowrawn on Corellia. That incident prompted Viri to make doubly sure that anyone she killed was really dead, but she obviously missed something with Malgus (it's the SWTOR writers, Viri, not you. I promise you did a good job fighting him).

Viri met various iterations of her past self when she performed her healing ritual on Yavin 4. All of them seemed to be satisfied with how things turned out, overall. She's been true to herself as much as possible, and while she does have some regrets, overall she thinks she did the best she could with the information she had at the time.

15 day SWTOR OC challenge

1 - Prologue -  Where was your OC before the class story? How’d they end up on the starter planet?

Zeth did not have an easy apprenticeship.

His padawan years were dominated by his immense but unpolished precognitive abilities. As a child, the sheer amount of sensory information he was getting made him jumpy and easily overwhelmed. Quietness and solitude were so much easier to cope with that Zeth became shy and reclusive, avoiding any situations that might be hard to process.

Zeth’s first master, Merys, died when he was fourteen. She had been his only close relationship, and he blamed himself for not doing more to talk her out of going on the mission that killed her. (He had sensed that something might go wrong.) This did not help his insecurity any - nor did his the various replacement mentors he was shunted between, who told him to suppress his nervousness through meditation rather than… y’know, actually helping him embrace or control the precognitive abilities that caused said nervousness.

His telekinetic skills were always weak; he couldn’t have Force-persuaded a potato. He was a good swordsman, but always thrown off-balance by the amount of precognitive information he had to process. His masters saw little potential in him, and he knew it.

By the time he was sixteen, Zeth was convinced that he would never be a Jedi.

Not long after he reached this depressing conclusion, Zeth was befriended by one of his sparring partners, a Mirialan Padawan named Yaron Shomae. Yaron was completely baffled by how their masters had overlooked an easy solution to Zeth’s problem. Zeth was getting too much information in a fight for him to respond to it in time. So… the obvious thing to do was to teach him dual-wielding. Give him the means to respond to more information at once. Zeth took to it instantly, his laser-precise precognition helping him control two blades with precision rarely seen in swordsmen twice his age.

(Incidentally, Yaron was very nearly Zeth’s first crush. He was the closest bond Zeth had had since Merys’s death, and - Zeth being demisexual and demiromantic - if they’d had more time for that bond to grow stronger, it would definitely have blossomed into romantic feelings. Many years later, after he’d fallen for Theron, Zeth would look back at his bond with Yaron and think ‘…oh.’)

Zeth spent the next three years throwing everything into his swordsmanship, practising at all hours, studying the various forms, determined to master as many as he could. This was the first thing he’d felt genuinely good at. Rehearsing his lightsaber forms calmed him more than any normal meditation; by the time he was nineteen, the jumpy Padawan had grown into a calm, soft-spoken young man. At least, he was calm on the outside, determined to finally live up to his teachers’ expectations. On the inside… let’s just say that studying combat at all hours didn’t do anything for his isolation issues.

And so Zeth was sent to Tython: just shy of his twentieth birthday, without any close friends, clinging to the Jedi Code because it gave him structure in a world that had so often been too much to cope with. Still secretly terrified that if he didn’t live up to his masters’ expectations, if he wasn’t perfect, he’d be kicked out of the order. Out of the only life he’d known since he was two years old.

He had a very, very long road ahead.

15 Day Swtor OC Challenge - Day 1

so i’m gonna do my best to do this thing! i will Not promise that i’ll get one done every day, but hopefully i’ll answer them all...eventually...!! to keep things interesting, i think i’m going to do this with my three favorite canon mains; Eralei, my Sith Warrior; Severine, my Imperial Agent; and Mheera, my Sith Inquisitor (who shares the story with her apprentice, Avixa.) republic characters? i dont know them. though i’ll probably bring in different OCs if relevant!

1. Prologue. Where was your OC before the class story? How’d they end up on the starter planet?

Eralei was born into a noble family on Alderaan, the Empire-sympathetic House Audroti. she represented her family’s best hopes of having official ties to the larger, more powerful House Thul, and was betrothed to one of the Thul lords. before the marriage could happen, however, her secret Force sensitivity--which she’d worked to hide from her parents up to that point--was exposed. her life’s path shifted dramatically, and after a year of private tutoring to give her a fighting chance, she was sent away to Korriban to become a powerful Sith Lord and bring glory to her family.

Severine was a promising young officer in the Imperial military, whose skills quickly earned her a place in a black ops team. after she single-handedly salvaged a mission that had gone horribly wrong, even though she was severely wounded herself, she was transferred to Imperial Intelligence.  a Dromund Kaas native despite being Chiss, Severine was practically born to serve the Empire. both parents were respected military officers as well, though they were both listed as KIA while she was still relatively young. she enlisted herself as soon as she was able, ready to do the duty that had been instilled in her since infancy. that’s the “official” story in the records, anyway.

Mheera led a much more unfortunate life. born into slavery and prized for her appearance, she was passed around from wealthy owner to wealthy owner, usually serving in a maid-like capacity as soon as she was old enough to not screw up. eventually she found herself as a dancer in one of Kaas City’s most exclusive clubs, The Gilded Cage, serving businessmen and military and the occasional Sith alike. one patron took a special interest in her, a Sith Lord who never gave their name. the mysterious Sith told her in private that they sensed she had incredible power and ability sleeping within her, and that she only needed proper training to bring it out. they promised to sponsor her to Korriban if she proved herself--so she did. she managed to escape her bonds with a ferocity she never dreamed she was capable of...and fled with her mysterious sponsor, whose true motives were still unknown...

15 Day SWTOR OC challenge: Day Two

2. Family. Is your OC’s family a large part of their story? Why or why not? Are they on good terms? Are any of your characters related?

Jezari Solarin

Her father is dead and her mother disappeared when she was twelve. One could argue that her father, in whose footsteps she followed as a smuggler, was at least a large part of why she has the story she has. Then again, she’s more successful than he ever was, and there’s her secondary career with the SIS. She’s certainly not just her father’s daughter.

She’s never looked for her mother because she doesn’t want to know. As long as she never knows, she can believe her mother is out there somewhere, leading whatever her mysterious second life was. Is.

[And “is” is the correct tense.]

Aori Savler

She has taken measures to make sure her family are never part of her story. Her name is (mostly) a pseudonym, and her career as a bounty hunter involves layers of pseudonyms. The one thing she never wants is for her career to follow her home.

She keeps in touch by holo and visits her family regularly, with presents for her nieces and nephews, and wild stories of her adventures (carefully tailored for her audience). Her parents don’t exactly approve of her career (it’s nearly as bad as if she’d gone into law enforcement!), but they’ve accepted it.

Kyrian Nessar

His parents died when he was very young, killed in the war. If he has any living extended family, they didn’t take him in when he was orphaned. Perhaps he has none, perhaps his parents were estranged from them, perhaps they didn’t want the bother of raising a small child, perhaps they thought an Imperial Orphanage would provide for him better than they could. He doesn’t know.

Ianya Solarin

She has a little, rather distant, contact with her family back on Mirial. But there’s so much she never told them, and never can. Her husband and daughter were killed in the war. That loss shaped her life thereafter greatly, particularly considering she came about thiiiiis close to falling completely. (And even a semi-fallen Jedi is a pretty terrifying thing.) Her greatest regret is choosing her duty and the war over her family. If only she’d been there to save them.

[You may notice a certain repeated last name. Ianya’s daughter is very much alive and well and working as a smuggler and unofficial SIS agent. And everything Ianya thinks she knows about how her husband died is wrong.]

Tevin Eberel

His family certainly shaped his story. The Eberels have always served in the military and are staunchly loyal to the Republic. He has a good relationship with his parents, sibling(s?), and extended family and holos or sends messages when he can.

Lord Daska

She hasn’t seen her mother or her little sister since she was taken away to be trained as a Sith. She believes they’re alive, somewhere, and has been secretly trying to locate them. But searching Imperial records is extremely difficult when you don’t want anyone to know you’re searching, and slave records are a challenge to begin with. Still, she hopes to find them. Somehow.

[Her little sister also proved to be Force Sensitive and has been trained as a Sith. A small, round, angry Sith, made of crabbiness and lightning. In game, Lysara is a Sith Inquisitor, and the powers are right, but my headcanons for her really have nothing to do with game story. Which is why I can’t really include her in this. Not that my headcanons for Daska exactly match up with the Sith Warrior’s story. But at least they’re in the ballpark.]

15 Day Challenge: #1 IMPERIALS

Prologue. Where was your OC before the class story? How’d they end up on the starter planet?

This is not absolutely within my writing canon since my character stories are very different from the canon storyline for obv reasons. I’ll still state where they were prior to the timeline start of the swtor story! A good chance to recap their histories and introduce them-- and include a random fact I don’t think I stated publicly about them. Ardralios: A Kiffar who was once a prisoner and then used as a tool to snuff out resistance groups post-Treaty. Closer to the start of the storyline, Ardralios was actually in the Cipher rank! He was retired to a Minder after no longer being fit to serve as a Cipher due to trauma. He was refurbished into a Minder and has held that rank ever since. Random Fact: His father is from Clan Vos. He and his sister took their mother’s name since their father was immersed in Jedi complications.

Nalel: She was a little ruffian on Corellia. Her family were very good entrepreneurs and had a blooming business in ballistic weaponry. Nalel wanted to stick it to the Corellian elite and status quo by little acts of rebellion, but ended up inadvertently aiding the Empire. A Cipher agent offered her the chance to join Intelligence rather than the other option of killing her, so she took it.  Random Fact: Nalel is a Human-Morellian hybrid.

Yahno: A simple boy looking for all opportunity to do what he wants when he wants to-- and unfortunately ended up in the opposite. He started off as a pirate, then a privateer (knew the voidwolf), then was placed into Intelligence against his will due to his potential. He has his cybernetics rigged to cause pain or kill him, so Yahno is in Intelligence for keeps.  Random Fact: He’s going full Arkanian. I have always thought of him as a Arkanian-Arkanian Offshoot hybrid, but it’s going to be a redundant past with my full-blown Arkanian Offshoot, Tacky. 

Cajole (whoops forgot her lol): Prior to joining the Empire, she was a loose predator of Force powers who was preying upon Imperials she could get her hand onto. After being caught, instead of being killed, she accepted the offer to train and become a full sith, at the promise of Jedi for her to prey upon. That’s exactly what she has been doing in the Empire for her entire time there.  Random Fact: She is an Anzat with the species canon based from Volfe Karkko. Her long lifespan and tendency to prey upon humanoids is why she treats people the way she does-- lesser.

Her first and only love is tacos.  I mean.  Theron Shan.  (though tacos are good too)

In all seriousness, she fell for him throughout the course of Forged Alliances up through Rise of the Emperor but like the dorks they were, they didn’t exactly sort out what exactly it was.  Then five years later, he rocks up to Odessen and they decide to try that relationship thing.  And even with his double agent shenanigans she forgave him took him back and even married the disaster spy.
