fr i need him. i have a thought but nothing written yet but HOLY SHIT have we considered him and snzfucker j/ackie???

- long fits that will take like. a minute or two to finish. the metros have timed him before

- usually somewhere around eight to twelve sneezes for a natural fit !!

- so that's like. maybe a sneeze every seven seconds?

- hella buildups. like, jesus christ. there’s pretty much no recovery between sneezes, he gets through one and immediately starts hitching again

- will genuinely try to hold a conversation through a fit because hayden is AWARE they take a while and he doesn't want to waste time

- most people will tell him to shut up (affectionately)

- if it's an actual allergy fit, however, there is genuinely no telling when it'll end. could be in a minute, could be in thirty.

- spaced-out singles

- somewhat wet sneezes. i imagine it more as like. from the mouth??? which is disgusting but you know what i mean? there's just a decent amount of spray okay.

- doesn't actually have dad sneezes but gets teased about having them all the time because. you know. four children, so what tf do you mean he sneezes like a dog (not too loud but a little violent physically)

- curls forward a bit with every sneeze

- stifles but only selectively. in the locker room he doesn't really care and he didn't do it much as a kid, but does for interviews and jackie

- so horrifically allergic to cattails (the reeds). went camping as a kid (does canada have boy scouts?) and someone pulled one of them apart and hayden almost had to go home. thankfully, he's mostly a city boy

- mild hayfever in spring and early summer; he can just take allegra and be fine

- HOWEVER. jackie definitely made it a mission to find perfumes/colognes he's allergic to and so they fuck around with those in the bedroom

- dare i say honeymoon rhinitis hayden…

- fuck it. honeymoon rhinitis sneezes are much softer and itchier for hayden, but still spaced out enough to piss him off

- usually one of the first to succumb to illness being passed through the locker room

- quota of being sick exactly once per year, though, so after he's been sick, he's safe lmao

- responsible sick person! and by that i mean he swigs dayquil throughout the day and then takes three times the recommended dose of nyquil and passes the fuck out.

- contrary to his belief, this does not help him get better faster.

[banging pots & pans together] H/EATED R/IVALRY HCS FOR I/LYA i was going to do him & s/hane together except then i had too many thoughts oops

preparing myself to be VERY contrarian aha. i've conducted incredibly unprofessional psychological analysis of i/lya and here is what i have concluded (in quite disorganized fashion):

- somewhat frequent sneezer; i don't quite see him as strictly allergic to much, but rather, his nose is just sensitive ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- on that note, he is quite allergic to cats & dust. both make him pretty sneezy

- smoking irritates his throat, and sometimes can make him sneeze

- he's allergic to some types of pollen, but more in the hives way than the sneezing way (not to say he doesn't sneeze from it, that's just... not his primary concern)

- autoimmune response is a bit fucky. he's gotten hives without knowing why so many times, so he's pretty used to it. it's rarely bad, but his teammates notice in the locker room more often than not and tend to panic a bit

- it's a fair reaction, though, since ilya gets plaques when it is bad :>

- stifles into silence. doesn't really know how not to stifle, the instinct is that ingrained in him

- like. idk where all of you are getting the whole loud sneezer & "doesn't care about germs/contagion" vibe. have you SEEN the way his father interacts with him??? he says "you listen, don't speak" to ilya in EPISODE ONE. no way ilya doesn't stifle or try to hide being ill until he just collapses

- if feverish, he's somehow even more defensive than usual. ilya just won't let anyone talk to him or even suggest he's not well without practically biting their head off, leading to his teammates wanting to make him take care of himself (or take care of him themselves!) but not really knowing how

- doesn't take meds for anything, especially sedative ones

- ilya runs cold !! which is good on the ice since he doesn't overheat under his gear but not great afterward since he cannot get warm (although sleeping with shane probably helps? i assume?)

- as a result, he'll be uncomfortable with a fever. everything is too hot for him, to the point where he can't even stand to wear a T-shirt

- sneezes from illness are pretty harsh & strong but they're not loud. the effort to stifle really shows on his face, and they only really start to get messy if he's sneezing a lot in a short amount of time (i.e., congestion is progressive)

- allergy sneezes are still fairly intense but they're definitely itchier. ilya always makes it worse since he keeps stifling everything

- meanwhile, natural sneezes are a middle ground between the two. they have around the same intensity, but they're more effective than his allergy sneezes and easier to stifle than illness sneezes

- so good at avoiding sinus infections. it's a little ridiculous, considering how much he stifles

- right yeah i wanted photic ilya. which is dumb bc press conferences and camera flashes and he would never want that captured but SOMEWHERE in some universe, ilya is photic

i am so delusional and keep forgetting to take medication lmao. enjoy some c/liff m/arleau snzcanons !!

- see okay i think it would be funny if cliff had been like. the sneezy guy on the raiders before ilya was drafted and stole the title

- so cliff isn't super sneezy, but he's definitely had an issue with like. someone's deodorant once in his rookie year and the older players never let it go and would tell stories of "that one time marly died" until ilya came along and showed them what near-death by sneezing actually looked like (cliff had sneezed maybe eight times)

- does every once in a while react to scented products. aerosols are probably the most common trigger

- he is allergic to dryer sheets. it doesn't matter what brand they are, they will piss off his nose like nothing else

- oral allergy syndrome with fucking rutabaga and turnip. cliff probably doesn't even know what the fuck those are, so he'll get a weird salad and just go "huh"

- loud sneezer. not a dad sneezer, but cliff is just physically a big guy. he's got hella lung capacity

- tendency for harsher sneezes; they usually scrape at his throat a bit and it's worse if he's sick

- not immediately messy, but congestion will accumulate quickly

- physically incapable of stifling. he's never even tried

- able to tell that he's going to sneeze, just not when. they will sneak up on him even when he's anticipating them lmao

- sneezes in singles and doubles pretty frequently, but he doesn't believe he sneezes more than once in a row, so he's consistently surprised when he gets a double even though it's roughly a 40/60 split between doubles and singles

- normal about medicine and resting once he's aware that he's sick

- however, shit at realizing that he's sick. i think whereas ilya will recognize it instantly and just push through, cliff simply doesn't notice symptoms in himself very well

- on that note, symptoms probably start very slow and mild, and then will hit all at once and take him out

- accidentally gets teammates sick because of that :/

- super prone to losing his voice when he's ill

- gets CRAZY fever dreams and the problem is that they're all plausible. what do you mean hammersmith wasn't doing karaoke last night and sang coldplay??? he wakes up and genuinely believes things happened

all i have to say is i've been on it since the beginning.

- the majority of snzblr seems to believe he's got the kink; big agree

- that being said, sneezing? wtf is that?

- shane is kind of annoyed by how little he sneezes and how like... insensitive his nose is. he can't even induce very well ;-;

- he gets a little jealous of ilya after they actually become a Thing, since while ilya isn't necessarily sneezy, it's still enough that shane will pay rapt attention to it

- allergic to cats as well! mutual allergies my BELOVED <3

- does reliably sneeze with spicy food. he gets vindaloo and spends half the night wiping his nose with his napkin. weakling /j

- once did a promotion campaign once for a cologne line or something and got a bunch of free samples. ofc, he figured out which ones could make him sneeze ehe

- his sneezes aren't loud, per se, but they're not all that quiet. like, nearly everyone in the locker room will hear if they're just chatting, but if it's rowdy before/after a game, maybe half of them will notice

- probably a little wet? but not all that messy

- he tried stifling exactly one time. he was 1) really fucking bad at it and 2) his mom told him to stop, so he did

- although a lot of people seem to think shane would try to push through an illness, i think shane is very, very aware of contagion and thus wouldn't do anything to risk getting any of his teammates sick. he's actually normal and responsible and he stays home and drinks ginger & echinacea tea. congrats on having the braincell !!

- doesn't really like taking medicine just because he worries about becoming reliant on it, especially as an athlete. shane needs to know what's going on with his body. so, he will take medication STRICTLY as needed

- i think he'd be grumpy when he's sick. he's still mostly functional, which just annoys him more lmao

- however, a fever will take him OUT. in response, shane goes to sleep until it's gone. it's an impressive strategy and terrifyingly effective.

- doesn't mind being cared for as long as it's by the right people.

- specifically relating to the kink and ilya, i think shane really likes it when ilya doesn't stifle around him. he's definitely a fan of ilya sneezing against him (shoulder, neck, what have you)

- dies from embarrassment when he casually uses words like "stifle" or "photic" or whatever and ilya has no idea what they fucking mean because at what point would they ever be relevant to him? he didn't learn them when he was learning english. cue shane having to define and blushing the whole time

- no sneezing pattern. ranges from singles to triples, but it's really just unpredictable. triples are rare, but happen often enough that it's not exactly surprising when they happen

- has the most DRAMATIC buildups ever. this fuckin' guy

- cannot stifle to save his life.

- absolutely has dad sneezes. i'm sorry b/c i do make the rules but like... i'm unlikely to write snz content for steve so it doesn't matter.

- gets sensitive? like, if he's being triggered by an allergen or is sick, it's usually not too hard to make him sneeze

- steve kind of shudders into his sneezes, meaning that he won't bend into them but he will move with them, if that makes sense

- sneezes into his elbow! good job sir

- is fine with being sick. honestly, steve's the only one who genuinely doesn't mind being sick, mostly because his partners dote on him and they're generally very sweet :)

- runs warm. very warm. not enough to be considered feverish, but he's like. a full degree above the average person and is pretty much a space heater. can be very nice or very bad to sleep with

- gets sick once or twice a year, nothing more or less than normal

- illness for him is usually nothing or mildly Bad

- allergic to mold, but it's rarely, RARELY an issue for him

- embarrassed about his sneezes just because they're loud

you can tell i am tired. finished my big final earlier today, so i am fucking exhausted lol. hope these were okay; i do enjoy steve as a character but not making him sneeze ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the c/hicago au n/ancy w/heeler snzcanons, because why not. considering possibly doing snzkink hcs for her and steve as well? perhaps? idk. if y'all are into the au, i'll definitely write them :)

- sneezes in doubles, with a slight pause in between. it's not really long enough for people to think that she's done, but it's long enough that there's a sense of ✨anticipation✨ lol

- pitchy buildups. you know those people whose pitch just gets higher on each breath? yeah that's nancy. they're not long, but steve did tease her about it a bit when they were dating in high school

- can stifle, but doesn't like to? nancy finds it uncomfortable when she does it, and tends to get a little self-conscious because like. stifling is something she likes, so to her, it's a lil funky to be fulfilling her own preferences

- unrelated, but hair bounce when sneeze. idk it's just cute to me

- i've never seen this next one talked about before, but i think nancy would close her eyes pretty hard whenever she sneezes, regardless of the force.

- sneezes into her elbow or the back of her wrist. the latter is only when she's forced to stifle though

- isn't afraid to admit that she's sick but also just won't stay put. like she'll tell steve and jonathan that she's sick and they'll be like "cool now please stay in bed" and twenty minutes later they'll find her cleaning the dishes or something. nancy please rest

- normal temp! she would make it easy to tell if she's actually running a fever or not, unlike her boyfriends

- straight-up just doesn't get sick. nancy got sick badly once as a little baby and her immune system fully went "yeah no we're not doing that shit again" and toughened up. she hasn't been sick once since eighth grade

- that's part of the reason why she doesn't like resting if she's sick; nancy doesn't ever consider herself "sick enough" to take a break, and she's usually correct.

- if she were to get sick, her symptoms would literally just be a cough and a headache or something. like illness does NOTHING to her, making her the designated caregiver <3

- very few allergies as well.

- maybe she'll react to dust if there's a lot of it? really it's nbd though

- the one thing that DOES get to nancy is this spice called star anise. it's used in a lot of asian dishes (pho, biryani, etc) but i think american people mostly use it in cookies and jams and stuff. but yeah it really gets to nancy, although her reactions are pretty quick. remove the allergen and she'll be fine in a minute or two

- hates sneezing. she likes it for other people, but not herself

are these chicago au j/onathan b/yers snzcanons? absofuckinglutely

- doesn't sneeze in multiples often, but will have occasional strings? like, he'll sneeze and it'll just keep going for a bit without a break (i.e., the same way i've described his photic sneezing fits in the other snzcanon list). besides that, he usually just sneezes in singles.

- very quiet buildups. not quite perfectly silent, but the only time steve or nancy will actually notice them is if they're already paying attention to jonathan or if it disrupts their conversation.

- simply does not use his hands to stifle. what a king

- on the same note, his sneezes are stifled into silence. most often, they're the quietest part of his sneezes, which means the soft little buildup is louder than the actual sneeze

- still jerks his knee up when he sneezes and tends to lean into them a bit <3

- i don't know exactly how to phrase this, but jonathan will typically pull up the neck/collar of his shirt over his face and sneeze into it? steve + nancy both find it very endearing

- absolutely detests being sick, but since his financial situation is much more stable than it was in hawkins, he's a bit more willing to let steve and nancy fuss over him a bit

- runs a much lower temperature than most people, and usually hovers around a low ninety-six.

- gets really quiet when he's sick. like, more than usual.

- in part, it's because he's prone to losing his voice when he's sick, but he also just doesn't feel like talking all that much.

- pretty much any illness will be accompanied by a fever, and jonathan will get really hot really fast. nancy actually can't remember if there was a single time he was sick while they were in college and didn't end up hallucinating

- chicago pollen vaguely fucks him up. it's just something about the trees in spring and ragweed in autumn get to him, but he does get a little break over the summer, thankfully

- later on, after the au is slightly more established, there's going to be this one perfume that nancy owns that literally destroys him :)

- mint is good! any time he eats a mint he sneezes. its fun. neither steve or nancy remember to get non-minty toothpaste half the time and jonathan suffers lol

- very extremely photic. it can be as simple as turning on the lights in the morning, pretty much any sudden flash is enough to get him.

- the longer he's in the dark, the worse his reaction is

- is usually pretty embarrassed about his sneezes? jonathan obviously isn't the biggest fan of drawing attention to himself, and especially not in public, but he's usually okay when it's just him and his partners in their apartment

j/onathan b/yers snzcanon time Oh Yeah :) 

- doesn't really have bursts of multiple sneezes (at least, not from colds/allergies), but once he starts sneezing, it's usually a very long fit 

- however if he DOES have a sneezing burst it's just rapid-fire. i'm talking one breath for five fucking sneezes. it's a bit terrifying 

- those will occasionally mix into his sneezing fits and the first time will heard it happen, he genuinely thought jonathan was about to die and screamed for joyce

- near-silent buildups!! his sneezes are pretty sudden to people who aren't paying attention since he gives almost no hints whatsoever 

- on that note, he has also mastered the silent stifle. 

- does the little knee-jerk thing, so there's still an indication/evidence even if no one hears him sneeze <3 

- always into his elbow 

- literally gives himself NO room to be sick 

- and like he'll work himself until he collapses. idk if other people have noticed but jonathan always appears EXHAUSTED so it takes a bit of time for him to actually look sick. in the first few days of a cold, people really just won't notice that he’s feeling unwell 

- he might be a bit quieter and more soft-spoken but that's really not unusual for jonathan. so what if he doesn't want to talk to anyone? maybe he's just having a bad day, who knows 

- colds go to his chest first, so he's not all that sneezy when he gets one. they're almost always accompanied by a fever, though, and he's gotten to the point of hallucination a concerning amount of times. 

- not super allergic?? like he doesn't get hayfever at all in the spring BUT he does have not-quite-mild ragweed allergies. he can also be sensitive to certain perfumes and dust and shit, but not to the point where he considers himself allergic (regardless, he still kind of is) 

- he's allergic to mint too and it's really funny since they have to get different toothpaste for him and everything

- one time joyce forgot and let me tell you that was A Morning

- he's SO photic though it's adorable. it's really bad after he's been in the darkroom for a while and once he leaves he'll be sneezing for at least five minutes, but it's usually closer to ten or even fifteen

- anytime someone opens the door he sneezes before he can yell at them and THIS are where most of those five-sneezes-per-breath fits occur. it's led to some awkward interactions lol

that's all i have for today. this is really bad since i typed it all out in my notes app while failing to sleep on that camping trip and i'm STILL not quite home yet sooo. anyway. i'm loving all the j/onathan b/yers prompts i've been given and if anyone wants to send either a photic or allergy scenario i'd also love that. ty!!
